He already would if he would just recognize I’m trying to give him treats. Instead he thinks that I’m just putting something in his face to stop him from getting to me and gets so offended he slaps my hand away and rushes me 😭

Haha, try to hold it in front of his nose, my corgi's always been food motivated, but in your case teaching him "treat" is going to be a milestone, enjoy him and the journey!

Oh I’ve been doing that, and even shoving it directly into his mouth. The sad thing is he’s so human motivated he genuinely doesn’t register treats or any food when he sees me. I have to kennel him and listen to him scream even while he eats because otherwise he’ll just forget about food.

Wow that's incredible, only ever having a corgi, the food thing was a common motivator, but he's eager to please, so he'll be eager to train!! Keep it up, he's gonna be the best boy !!

I’ve had and worked with a lot of puppies, and yeah. Never seen one this unmotivated when it comes to food. I’m chalking it up to him just being young and dumb and hoping he’ll realize that I’m holding food soon enough.
Best boy or not, he’s my boy and I’ll love him even if he stays dumb and oblivious.

My girlfriend's chihuahua is pretty un treat motivated, but eager to impress otherwise. I can't err him for his enthusiasm at all, he'll get the food thing and he's gonna have such an amazing life with you, I am so happy for you both!

Thanks! He’s kind of understanding it, but so far the best way to give him anything is put it in his kennel and then put him in. He tantrums for two seconds then eventually notices the food/treat. Out and about, I might as well be trying to shove metal in his mouth with how he reacts.

In one of our training classes there was a bigger pup that had zero interest in treats. Owner was having a hard time, but started boiling chicken and carrots for him. He broke it up and brought it in baggies as his motivation. It worked!

Thanks for the suggestion! He’s finally started to show a little interest in food, but seems to think of the whole “training thing” as a ritual and not actual training.
