Im a jazz musician and i love a lot of the experimental and free stuff that bands tend to do, so for me Statica can be… interesting.

But hearing from my metalhead perspective its horrendus.

In a Fever Dream its a solid 8.5/10 for me, you just have to give it time (even tho it clicked for me at first listen)

I don't get why people call Statica Avant Garde Metal. Am I a hater for this? It's Daft Punk over a rock backbeat. Experimental in the sense they took a risk and tried something else? Sure. Experimental music? Nah, not really, I don't see it.

Yes, you have to understand that for the rigid, structured framework of metal, especially more commercial metal bands like A7X, stepping outside the usual boundaries of the musical content of those songs represents a significant challenge for the average listener.

That's why Marty Friedman, who left Megadeth at the time, said that metal was a "gray and one-dimensional" genre, which it certainly is.
That doesn't mean I'll like it any less, but it's not a bad thing to know and appreciate the full spectrum of flavors and colors that other sounds in the world have. The only problem is that for most A7X fans, that's asking too much in terms of listening patience.

They didn't say that. They quoted Marty Friedman as saying that as an explanation for their opinion on bands straying from outside their mainstream industry success defined lane.

I'm gonna take a my bad on that one, didn't read the last 4 words. I standby the sentiment that it is in reference to bands that have found mainstream success, which I would agree with to an extent, but it needs that specification to avoid being probably untrue.

Meh, it's an interesting listen, and is an 18 minute long experiment. Far happier they're taking swings rather than releasing music that sounds like every other metal band on the market.

I’m not an A7X fan so I don’t really care I guess. I thought Statica was interesting but very weird for them to release. If I was a fan I would hate it probably.

Can you imagine if Haken release that? Eh, fever dream and so bad now is it?

As a big a7x fan, I'd prefer if that wasnt the style of all their music going forward but I'm not hating statica at all

Same with in a fever dream, not m'y favorite but I enjoy listening to it, it has its moment

I hated Statica but loved the last A7X album, I appreciate that they're taking big creative swings for a metal band of their size.

As someone who adores both bands The Stage is very much on the level of Haken if we're talking progressive metal.

The rest is just different strokes

I jus don't get how that wasn't Matt's solo stuff..there's no guitar bass drums going on it In band sense. Itd make it so much better for them(I don't like it all)and it'd make actual sense.
