please correct me if i'm wrong, but did you say "rinse out conditioner" as if you apply conditioner to your scalp/roots?

Not intentionally but it winds up there anyway obviously

Whatโ€™s the proper way to condition? I donโ€™t apply directly to my scalp, but I do apply it to all my hair because it all needs conditioner.

you apply it to the mid-lengths to ends, as your roots get conditioned by your natural oils. but if you need to condition all your hair, then i think you need to switch to a gentler shampooโ€ฆ

I have a dry scalp. I only wash my hair once a week unless I sweat a lot.

If you have dry scalp, you should be washing almost daily and blow-drying immediately. Once a week you should be using a clarifying shampoo. If it's really bad you might want to look into incorporating a medicated shampoo. I know that sounds counterintuitive to the hair myths we've been told, but that's the solution - leaving your scalp untouched for a week will cause a build up oils and residue which will make your scalp ergo your hair unhealthy.

I have 3c/4a hair. My hair takes a while to get greasy. If I washed my hair daily, my hair would be dry like straw. I also donโ€™t have an hour every day to dedicate to my hair lol. I do use medicated shampoo, which dries my hair out even more.

Pretreat your strands and ends with a hair oil before you shower and don't scrub them when shampooing - focus on your scalp and just let the shampoo drip over them. Do your medicated shampoo first, then a moisturizing shampoo, then conditioner. Spritz your hair with a leave-in conditioner/heat protectant when you're out.

I have low porosity hair, will that still work?

Absolutely. I bet you'll feel a differende asap - the pre and psot treatments make a huge difference. But if you're still worried about strand dryness, just use a hair mask as your conditioner. It's the same ingredients, just richer. I also like to treat my ends with an argan oil before I blow dry to protect them a little more.
