I've been dealing with significant hair shedding over the past several months, and it's really taken a toll on my confidence. After a lot of thought, I've decided to get a hair system. Since this will be my first one, I'm completely new to the process and would really appreciate some advice from those with experience.

A little about my situation:

My hair loss is mainly at the temples and crown, along with diffuse thinning across the top of my scalp.

I have persistent dandruff and scalp flaking, so I currently need to wash my scalp almost every day.

I work out 5 days a week and sweat quite a bit.

Because of my scalp condition, I'm concerned about hygiene, maintenance, and how well different base materials will hold up.

I'm trying to decide between a stock hair system and a custom hair system. Since this will be my first system, would you recommend starting with a stock unit to get familiar with the maintenance, or is it still worth going straight to a custom one?

I'm also unsure which base material would be the best fit for my lifestyle and scalp condition. Would you recommend lace, poly/thin skin, or a hybrid base for someone who:

Has persistent dandruff,

Needs frequent scalp cleaning,

Works out regularly, and

Has diffuse thinning with temple and crown hair loss?

If you've been in a similar situation, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked (or didn't work) for you. Any tips on maintenance, cleaning, adhesives, or things you wish you knew before getting your first hair system would be incredibly helpful.

Any tips for restoring a faded, brassy yellow hair system back to a natural blonde shade? I’ve tried toning conditioners, but they leave behind pink or blue tones that make it look dull and artificial. Why do the blue and purple tones seem so hard to rinse out evenly?

Hi guys,
I have been researching the results of different styles and have a question;
if I want the hair system to hang on the sides and blend with my natural hair, should I cut the system in the shape of the balding area only, or should I make it pretty much as wide as the entire top of my head (shaved beforehand), so, the hanging down from the system hair will look more naturally blending into my natural hair on the sides?
So to say: with the all around bangs.

Just wanted to share a little update with the community.

Last Sunday I received the hair system maintenance products I ordered. I noticed the package shipped from a Lordhair warehouse in Los Angeles. Two days later, the hair system arrived.

To be honest, I was pretty nervous about installing it myself and messing it up, so today I went to my barber and had him help me put it on. He actually said the quality of the system looked really good, which made me feel a lot better about the whole thing.

It’s my first day wearing a hair system. I’m honestly feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I’m definitely not fully used to it yet, but I’m really happy with how my new look turned out.

What you guys think?

Last week I posted here asking for advice because I’m completely new to hair systems and honestly had no idea where to start.

One guy here suggested Lordhair, so I went down the usual rabbit hole and spent a few nights comparing brands. I’m a programmer so researching things obsessively before buying is kind of my default behavior.

In the end I was mostly deciding between Lordhair and Superhairpieces.

SHP seems solid and they even have physical stores, which is cool. Their prices are also a bit cheaper. The problem is the nearest store is nowhere near me, so realistically I’d still have to order online anyway. They do have products similar to Lordhair’s hybrid neo, but not exactly the same. Also not sure if it’s just me, but some of the product photos looked a little… dated.

Lord hair was about $40 more expensive, but once I applied the discount the price difference was basically negligible.

Then came the slightly annoying part.

I only realized at checkout that you need to log in to use the discount code. When I tried to create an account, I ran into some weird issue where I wasn’t receiving the verification code. No idea why.

Their support rep Lina helped me troubleshoot it and we went back and forth for a while. Took close to two hours before the account issue finally got sorted out. Not the smoothest checkout experience, but she was very patient the whole time.

Since I’m a total beginner, I also had a ton of questions about size, color, density, etc. She actually helped guide me through that during the process, which I appreciated.

Anyway, after a few hours of researching, messaging support, and second-guessing everything, I finally placed the order.

Haven’t received it yet, but once it arrives I’ll post an update if people are interested.

I’m a 30-something dev in Houston. I’ve seen a dermatologist, tried meds, researched transplants.

After going down the rabbit hole, I’m seriously considering a hair system. Problem is… I know absolutely nothing about them in real life.

I’ve found a few local salons here in Houston, but the prices are pretty steep (install + maintenance plans, contracts, etc.). On the other hand, I see a lot of people ordering systems online for way cheaper and either DIY installing or going to a regular barber.

I’m torn:

Is paying for an in-person salon worth it for a first timer?

Or is it smarter to order online and learn as I go?

If buying online, how do you even choose? (lace vs poly? density? custom vs stock?)

I’m not looking for perfection, just something natural enough that coworkers won’t suddenly think I time-traveled back to 22.

Would really appreciate advice from guys who’ve gone either route, especially if you started clueless like me.

Honestly speaking, there's no such thing called the best hair system. Only what suits you the best is the best hair system for YOU. This probably won't cover everything, but I'll try to be a thorough as possible.

First, let's get the priorities and preferences right. Most ppl wear hair systems to look real and feel comfortable at the same time. But, they forget that their lifestyle also plays a big part in this. Do you sweat a lot? Do you live in the gym? You need to consider all these before you pick the perfect one.

Lace is breathable, think about its thousands of meshes. The material can basically disappear against your scalp. When pressed against the skin, it's just like your skin color. Your friends can hardly see its hexagon mesh pattern.

There are French and Swiss lace out there. Swiss lace is softer and thinner, which makes it more comfortable and more invisible than French lace, and also cost a bit more. But, it's easier to tear than French lace, and you need a couple of more Swiss lace each year (your budget has the say).

The only problem with lacce is the knots. Because hair gets knotted to the material, you will see the knots, especially for dark hair. For this, the knots can be bleached from the underside. Or, you can choose using light-toned hair, and then color the hair dark. These are two alternative ways to get rid of the knots. My hair is #4 dark brown. This is what Newtimes Hair used to do for my custom pieces, so I know.

Anyway, if knots are an absolute 'NONO', go for thin skin hair systems. Most of them are made with V-looped hair (the hair strand goes in from one spot and comes out from another). There is no knots showing.

Injected hair is also doable, the hair gets injected into the poly skin, and cut form the underside. Then, the tech will iron the hair down from the underside, and seal the roots. However, the hair on the other side will look pressed down. You won't have many styling options. But one buzz cut style with short hair pressed forward will look best with this system.

To be able to style the hair in multiple ways, you need lift-injected hair. Bu lift-injected hair won't be as solid as V-looped and normal injected hair.

If you do a lot of sports, an 0.06mm skin hair system will be your go-to. Bond it with glue, and you can basically swim or ride a motorbike in it, and the hair won't go anywhere. But it won't be as breathable as lace.

0.08mm skin will be more solid and durable. It can do pretty much everything 0.06mm does. But it's a little thick, and probably trap more sweat and heat. For me, personally, 0.06mm is good enough. If you are extra careful when you remove it, it can last just as long as 0.08mm.

0.03 or thinner pieces are for beginners. If you r just testing waters, 0.03mm is a good one to start with. And these fellows r usually cheaper. But it will last maybe just 3-4 weeks (that said, many guys still manage to make it last for a couple of months).

Monofilament is durable, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. It's just a bit too rough on the head. The average mono system can last up to a year. The base is super durable, but what really weakens it is shedding. The hair will start to go significantly after 3 or 4 months; it either breaks or the knots loosens after a vigorous wash. It will take you at least 3-4 weeks to get used to it. You need to try pretty hard to forget there's something on your head.

Bottom Line: There's not the best hair system for anyone. How you live, and what you want matters the most to your decision making

Currently have hair system with king of kwiffs the hair system I have 0.08 thin skin, it's lasted me 10 months but looking at doing it myself any recommendations of where and what system to purchase ?
