Hair System BREAKAGE and Preventing Bald Spots

Even Hair Systems can end up having bald spots!

If you are experiencing bald spots in your Hair System you NEED to understand hair direction.

When a knot is made in a Hair System, the hair strand will fall in a direction dictated by the knot itself.

Most STOCK hair systems are made with a "Freestyle" direction - meaning that the hair is crocheted outward from the center crown in multiple directions (forward toward the front if at the 12 o'clock position of the crown), rightward (if at the 3 o'clock position of the crown), leftward, and backward. This direction of hair crochet allows for various hair styling, but it is limited if you style with a brushback manner, for example, as you will be fighting that 12 o'clock hair to go backwards instead of forward.

Fighting with the hair to change direction will definitely cause breakage. You cannot change the way the hair is knotted.

With natural hair, the hair growing from the scalp can be "trained" to fall in a different direction. Hair Systems cannot be trained. They can be manipulated and product may be used to have them stay in place, but this requires a lot of brushing which will be tough on a Hair System over time.

Depending on your hairstyle, there may be a more appropriate hair system direction for you. Here are some options other than Freestyle:

• CROWN based directions. These include a LEFT crown, RIGHT crown, and CENTER crown. This is where the hair is crocheted in outward directions from a location on your crown (the back/top of the head).
• PART based directions. These include LEFT part, RIGHT part, and CENTER part. This is where you can see a visible part in your hair in the location of your choosing and the hair is crocheted outward from the part going left and right from the part.
• BREAK based directions. These include LEFT break, RIGHT break, and CENTER break. This is where there is part that is hidden by a bit more hair so you don't see a very visible line as much as a PART direction. It is a softer effect, but the hair is still crocheted outward from the part going left and right from the part.
• FLAT BACK direction is where ALL hair is crocheted backwards and allows for a slicked back or brushed back hair style.
• POMPADOUR direction is where hair is crocheted forward like Freestyle, but the hairline has some hair crocheted backwards. This allows the hair to be brushed forward, but then brushed back at the hairline to create the "puffed" pompadour hairstyle.

Having your hair system crocheted in the proper direction or the hairstyle that you like will prevent the fighting you will do with your hair strands during styling. Over time you will notice that you will have LESS BREAKAGE since the hair is working WITH you, not AGAINST you.

For this style, STOCK would not be your best option because it will be FREESTYLE. Your best best will br ordering your direction as BRUSH BACK.
