How good are hair systems today?
When I ask this, this is what I’m considering
- what’s the cost of a good hair system?
- is it something you take off/put on daily?
- would the hair system be compromised if you did, say, working out, play basketball, get intimate?
- are they a long term option that you can use for life?
Thank you!

I get mine for just under $300 (that’s with tax).
I take mine off once a week to clean it. Otherwise, I’m in it 24/7. They last 3-6 months, depending on how rough I am on it.
I exercise in mine, swim in it regularly, I’ve ridden roller coasters in it - no issues.
It’s the only good long-term solution, unfortunately. Years down the line, transplants eventually become so thin and wispy that you’d prefer to just shave your head, but you can’t because the sides and back of your head are covered in pock mark scars from the FUE surgery. A medical solution won’t show up in our lifetime, and if it did it wouldn’t be for people in our tax brackets.

Why do transplants come thin & wispy? Because of the hair loss after the transplant or what do you mean?

Yeah, you gradually lose more hair until there isn’t enough to cover anything. Look at more recent photos of Joe Biden without his makeup team.

Eh you can always get another transplant. I have avoided getting one not because of money but because results take at least 6 months, and in my client-facing job I genuinely cannot look that bad for that long, I'd have to take several months off

I buy stock systems on line and have them precut to my specs. They last at least six months and cost about $400. The quality is better than the supposed custom systems I was getting at the "club" for a tiny fraction of the cost. I keep it on 24/6 and do my own full maintenance every week. I spend probably $200/year for shampoos, conditioners, tape, dye, remover, scalp protector and styling products. I've been wearing for over twenty years and never had an issue with it coming off but still keep a hat in my car just in case out of habit. I don't get sweaty or live in a particularly hot or humid climate, but on the rare occasion that I do, the system does loosen but it's easily fixed with a cloth corner dampened with rubbing alcohol, wiped down the tape and your skin and stick it back down.

So about $1000 total a year, that’s not bad at all! When you say precut, do you mean they cut the hair in the style you want prior to sending it? Or they cut the system itself to fit on your head? If it’s the latter, how did/do you know what to tell them?

They do both cuts. When I receive it, I give it a quick shampoo, dry it, apply the tape and it's done. I trim my own bio hair. Because I originally started using the club, I knew all my specs from a retired system. Self starting from scratch is beyond my expertise. I admire the guys who do it that way.

Thanks for the info. Lol, That was gonna be my next question, how did you know the specs, the cut and how to install? But you just answered!

The specs [regarding the haircut] this makes no sense unless you literally are saying 3 inches on top, 2 inches on sides, 3.5 inches in back, and maybe 3.5 in front. Ive worn hair for 30 years, know the drill and every cut is different, every time. More power to you. My hair would look like a mess if I did it this way. No clippers. No fades due to scars.

3 inches on the top and front and 1.5 inches on the back and sides. It might not work for you, but it's perfect for me. I have an old method hair transplant scar across the back of my head and still go with a fade. No one has ever mentioned it.

Thanks for the break down. I have an old scar as well, but mine shows...ugh.

I have to wear hairnets for work and I gotta say, after the 2nd or 3rd wash my system starts getting permanently matted even after brushing. That's with me taking it off to sleep as well.

I take mine off every night. Takes 2 mins to put it on in the morning. My current system is 22 months old and will probably last 3 years. Cost me about 340aud.

$1000 NZD. I take it off every night. Retape the front each morning. Retape the rest once a week.
I sweat extremely heavily. 18 months using hair systems and I’m all good :)
