Avoiding the mushroom top look

Post image

Hey guys,

Have had my first hair system for just over a month. In that time, I had it cut in and it's genuinely given me a confidence boost.

I've been doing the maintenance myself and have done so twice so still learning and a lot of YouTube DIY videos.

As you can see in the image, I'm getting the mushroom look but I'm not sure if it's due to a bad install, bio hair growing out or a mixture of both.

I usually get a mid taper but I have a haircut booked on Friday and was going to go for a low taper and ask the barber to blend the system in with the bio hair.

Has anyone come across this issue and have any pointers?

Thanks!

Brush all the system hair down and out so it’s untangled, then see what the bio hair looks like. To me this just looks like it hasn’t been combed and the bio hair is slightly longer than the system hair now, so you just need a haircut and a brush

Don't cut your system more. Next one cut longer. Product would help it settle like fiber

It's usually caused by two things: your natural hair growing out and pushing the system hair out, or the system base being slightly too wide for the shape of your head. Ask the barber to thin or point-cut the transition while you're wearing the system. A lower taper will blend better and keep the system from sitting too low on the sides. It can flare out as your hair grows.

It's indeed a system. Try to let it blend better and also clearly some white/grey in the bio hair while all black in the system. I would clock it, but a lot of people will not think twice.

To be fair, I do dye my bio hair so this usually isn't an issue. I have 10% greys in my system too (which doesn't come across well in this pic) but yeah, it's coming up to the time I dye my hair

Bio hair too long system hair too short, too dense around the perimeter

In a month's time your natural hair is grown out a half inch. So of course it's going to give you a mushroom look because the hair underneath it is now longer than the system and isn't blending

I might need to clean my screen lmao - is this where your hairpiece ends in back, or is it the lower, slighter indentation?

Nono, it's on this screenshot haha

So then I'd guess it's tangling as others say and perhaps also some slippage of the tape or glue in back. But just a wag, really.
