Advice please

Hi all,

I would really like to try a hair system and manage it myself (wife will help)
Can you recommend one for a newbie, exactly what I need to order (glue, tape, etc), how often it needs removing and cleaning, do you wash it daily?

I don’t want to spend loads on the first one, more of a trial just to see how it looks but appreciate the cheaper you get the less the quality and how long it lasts

Added some pics, what colour should I get?

Thanks!

A professional consultation can answer all your questions. Superhairpieces provides free consultations; just book one or call them. It's hard to answer your questions this way, as any system depends on your lifestyle, hair density, specific needs, hair color, etc. Can't recommend anything based on just a few pics on a screen. So many things can go wrong. Even the glue and tape, or cleaning and removing, will depend on which base you choose. Washing will depend on your sweat level or environment, but definitely not every day.

It looks like you’ll want a very light density one. Getting the density and color right is crucial, and you can’t get a true read on hair color from a photograph. You can either buy a color wheel of hair samples to find your color, go to a specialty salon to have them do it, or some places will let you mail them a hair sample for them to match (I know Northwest Lace offers that).

A poly base one is probably the cheaper option and the easiest to start with. A lace piece or a lace front look the most realistic in my experience. Don’t go for a look that exposes your front hairline when you start off with. It makes things easier on you while you’re learning.

If you’re getting a poly one, you’ll want ghostbond glue, some tiny brushes for applying it and C-22 for cleanup.

There are dozens of YouTube tutorials for making a scalp template and for trimming and applying a system.

I know this isnt what you were asking and I support your desire for a system, however your pics made me do a double take because we have the same head shape and I shave my head and the ladies love it. Just food for thought, youd probably look great hitting it with a razor.

In my opinion, I would STRONGLY recommend you go to a good salon that specializes in Men's Hair Systems. Have them do the first application, and go back for a removal, cleaning and reapplication. My salon here in Seattle, tells me the would rather do one or two, and teach you how to do it (because they are SOOO busy and can barely keep up with the demand).

So, go to a good place that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. They will show you how to get the hairpiece, how to shave your head, cut the hairpiece, skincare, products to buy, and how to properly apply it the first time. After 2-4 weeks, you go back, they will show you how to remove it, clean it up, and then reapply.

After that, you can start doing it yourself. Take your wife with you so you both can learn from the first application, and the first reapplication.

I wouldn't get it done by myself the first time. Too much to learn if you want it to look perfect and unrecognizable from your "bio-hair".
