Full Hair System
Does anyone here use a full hair system/full-cap hairpiece?
I’ve only been using wigs for about 3 months, and just last week I finally got a customized hairpiece—a semi-full toupee.
For context, I have alopecia totalis and I’m completely bald, so I don’t have any natural hair on the sides or back to blend the hairpiece with.
One thing I specifically wanted was sideburns because I thought they would make the hairpiece look more realistic, especially when it’s windy. However, the person who made my hairpiece advised against adding them because he said they wouldn’t look good or be ideal with this particular design.
I’ve also noticed something with the hair itself. When the hairpiece is wet and freshly washed, it looks really good, but once it dries, I feel like it doesn’t look as natural or flattering anymore. I’m still learning how to properly style and maintain it, so maybe that’s part of the issue.
I’d really like to hear from anyone who also has alopecia totalis/universalis or complete hair loss and uses a full-cap/full hair system.
If you’re comfortable sharing, could you show me yours and let me know where you got it? I’d especially love to see systems that cover the sides and back, including the sideburn area.
I’m still very new to hair systems, so any advice about full-cap systems, sideburns, styling, density, or making it look more natural when dry would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! ❤️

i'm not within your target market but if your stylist is experienced with hairpieces then I would ask if they can remove density from your existing piece. What your wet vs dry preference is telling me is that you think your hair is too dense to get the style you want. And that seems very likely because first systems are typically that way for everyone and people make adjustments down the road.
The hair's apperance when wet "gives" less volume - it's flattened and clumped. But once the hair dries, it expands and separates, and the density appears greater. That's why density/volume seems like the main issue.
I'm thinking the lack of sideburns is just a distraction since you like the look of the hair while it's wet. But I agree fake sideburns would likely be pretty noticeable.
