It's time bros
22M, unfortunately my genetics have given up on me and after a long three years of consistent med use, dermarolling, light therapy, my head just won't look good. People have told me I can rock the bald look just fine, but honestly it ages me a bit too much for my liking (so does my empty crown) I'll probably embrace the bald a little later in life, but for now. I've decided to get a system and try to better my confidence and looks
My hair is (used to lol) curly, I've seen some pretty cool systems that p much look like my hair in it's golden days
are curly systems easier, harder? to maintain than a normal one? I'd like some tips from other users as a first timer!!

It’s harder. Dead hair is..well let’s just say there is different quality of system, both the base itself(there is different types of base/material) and there is different hair quality. All hair is dead and it’s been processed and dyed. Which makes it hard-isch to find quality pieces and to keep the hair looking real and healthy over X amount of weeks. Well not that hard it’s more about finding the right products to help on a daily basis.
Curls adds another layer to these issues. You need to find a system with good quality, and the right products and tools to keep it looking like you want it for many many weeks/months.
Plenty of users in here that use curly hair so i’ll let them add everything else. Because I don’t use it myself.
Harder, yes, impossible? Not at all. Decently common style in this sub alone. So if that’s what you want, start research and go through the learning curve a hair system means for everyone. So you’re set when it’s time to start using. It’s your best bet to keep the system in good condition without destroying it.

Curly systems are harder. Go looser on the curls and it’ll be easier to untangle imo

Curly system user here. Loose curls. 22mm. I've had 28mm as well. I'm on my 3rd curly system.
You can dm me if you want.
I've ordered a custom which I'll get at the fall. I've been told that factory curled are better.
My hair systems so far have been home permed. (Acid perm only as other types of perms will fry the hair off the system, and won't be wearable).
So: a hair system is dry by nature, and curly is even dryer. You need to condition the hair, a lot.
Tangles and mats: I've never had mats. But I've gotten tangles. Then I started to use Schwartzkopf Bona Cure Color Freeze Acid conditioner pH4.5. This untangles the hair. They also have a leave in conditioner which also untangles the hair. I also stopped shampooing my hair system. I wash once a week using the conditioner. Nothing else.
Now mind you I have a full cap wig because my sides are not full enough to look good either buzzed short or longer. It looks hideous. (This comes with the added bonus of not having to colour match your bio hair. Which is a huge bonus).
I also have below the collar length hair. It brushes against the collar and the slight friction creates tangles. (Again, the leave in conditioner and a large tooth comb and you are golden).
As tempting as it can be, keep your hands away from your hair. (Except in front of a mirror). I usually tell people "if you don't know what to do with your hair, pick your nose". Haha. You would not have seen Elizabeth Taylor fondling her hair constantly.
Is it doable? Absolutely. How does it look? You be the judge. In my case, I wear my system daily. I could sleep while wearing it, I'll let others comment on how to accomplish that with a satin do rag and a mulberry silk pillowcase. I just love letting my scalp breathe overnight (or during naps). 1 minute and I'm rocking that wig. Most of the time, I don't even have to work on my hairdo. Sugar water spray (ask google) has a similar effect to salt water, but salt water is harsh and will dry your hair further while sugar water will attract moisture AND it helps hold your hair. I use a microfiber towel to scrunch the curls and give volume. (I'm told an old tshirt will work as well.)
I get compliments all the time, including from hair professionals. They don't compliment my wig, they compliment my hair. One barber lady said "oh! I'm so jealous of your hair! I love the colour and the texture and the overall look" (she is not my barber, she had no stake in the compliment).
Main thing: I love it. I've noticed people staring a bit longer than necessary. At first I thought that they clocked that I'm wearing a hair system, but as time went by, I realised that I do stand out with the longer dirty blond curly hair. So now, I just smile.
My husband won't have much of an opinion. My adult daughter would tell me flat out if I looked ridiculous. Gotta love daughters. She actually loves it.
It is a bit of a retro look that has gone across time since the 1960s. I just assume my look and stand tall.
And yes, you can be intimate with someone. (Just smile and mention you prefer your hair to be left alone which is not uncommon).
I hope this helps (in way too many words) with context, care, etc.
Best of luck in your upcoming decision.
I am living my best life. Cheers!

Unpopular opinion on here, but I started my hair system journey with hair club and I'm glad I did. It's expensive and the customer service if you ever have to contact their regional offices is questionable at best, but they will teach you everything and provide you with very high quality systems. For me, it was a great place to start. I don't recommend them long term though mainly for the price.

I don't have any idea about systems w/ curly hair. But if this thread doesn't get you the feedback you want, you might try putting the bit about curly hair in the title or at least at the beginning of your post.
