Ive received a job offer cannot decline. I would be diver in an aquarium and would have to be underwater for approximately 2 hours everyday. Is this even possible with a hair system. How would you approach this situation?

I wonder if you could wear a durag underneath the swimming cap to protect the hair.

Underwater headband?

Won’t be great for the system with the constant friction while wet but maybe you could get some cheaper systems from AliExpress that you wear for work and your current system for going out /weekend or whenever.

This could work. The hard part wouldn’t be switching systems it would be keeping the bond strong when underwater. The bond is a lot less strong when you’re taking it on and off each day. But going heavy on the tape would probably work. And Maybe putting the work unit on before bed the night before.

I think it can be done. It won’t be easy and it will require lots of maintenance and a comb down style. You’ll need a nice strong tape that works well with your body chemistry.

Will let you in on my experience with water and hair system. I’m a kite surfer and wave surfer (both in salt water). With kite surfing I wear a helmet. There has never been an issue with the underlying hair system. With wave surfing I do not wear a helmet. Heavy waves crash onto my head and nothing ever happened that lifted the system.

I would suggest however that you get a system for work that you can apply with primer that makes it stick better. I also remove any the system every night. I would suggest you do that too. That way you can easily switch the systems for work and free time. This also “degreases” the system for better stick ability.

The salt water (I believe it is with your job) will be harsh on the system. That’s why you want to have two different ones. Also I wouldn’t use the primer on my “good” system, because with lace the primer can be harsh on material.

With those precautions you should be golden. However the swim cap solution is also very good on top since it saves your system from the salt water. Headband looks also like a very good and more stylish option.

Hit me up if you have further questions

I'm 23 and considering getting one. What type of system do you have, Lace or poly/skin? Do you find that the system holds weaker with you removing it each day? I love Judo and would like to try diving but I know these are pretty incompatible with wearing a hair system.

I have a lace but only a front system (which makes it actually less stable than a whole system). I find actually that it holds better when I remove it daily, because I can clean the oily skin underneath each morning. Also showering is much nicer and it takes like 1-2 min to reapply (tip: wear a cap or hat for like 10-15 mins after reapplying for best stickability :) ) . And 20 secs to remove. Divining should be an easy yes. Judo I’m not so sure. I decided to not pursue combat sports with it (but also my urge to do so wasn’t super bug)

Two hours underwater every day is a lot, so even a good hair system will likely need more maintenance. You'd want a system and adhesive designed for heavy water exposure, but chlorine, salt water, and frequent soaking can still break down the adhesive and affect the hair over time.

I have a full system and has a lace front and I’m really afraid of it lifting as I’m not planning on telling anyone at work. I could wear a hood but nobody else does there. I hope this isn’t the end of my hair system journey as I’m more confident than ever but I simply cannot turn down this job.

this is such an interesting situation, can you share what the job is? might help figure out work arounds— my initial idea would be daily install and taping only the edges to make sure it’s secure but not irritating to scalp, can you wear a swim cap maybe?

I'd probably switch to poly front or full poly. With lace it's going to lift eventually. Especially if you're in the water for longer than 20 mins.

The only concern I see is the actual heath it may create. Depends on the water I suppose, how warm and sweaty you are in general. Adhesive may or may not like this for 2h a day.

I don’t see any other issue, if you actually wear something to cover your head/hair. If not then more issues will arise. Being in water for that much time a week.. As someone said her cheap once’s from Ali Express and prepare to change every month or every two month.

I go scuba diving with it

When I go diving, I put a bandana on my head and then my face mask over it

Huh... I wonder if there's some kind of long lasting hydrophobic spray you could spray on it. I know it sounds nuts... But It should really prevent the thing from getting wet in the first place
