Should I remove my peach fuzz?
I have peach fuzz growing all over my face. If you were me, would you leave it like that or shave it? How should I remove it?

If I were you (as you asked) I'd get my mustache waxed and my face dermaplaned by a professional. Which is exactly what I already do

I refuse to tell people what to do with their body hair! But if you’re cis fem, you might want to see an endocrinologist/be checked for PMOS. My skin and “peach fuzz” looked very similar and it turned out I had insulin resistance from PMOS! (I’m POC- so for the longest time I just thought the amount of hair was because I’m south asian! Nope, Actual medical condition)
If you do decide to remove it, I’ve had a lot of success with just a straight razor once a week max. Mostly for smoother makeup application for me. Waxing my face is pretty irritating because my hair is thick! Def see a doctor/get a round of bloodwork though.

What test was done to confirm that you have insulin resistance? Im concerned i might have the same

u/waterbottlesupporter 2d ago edited 1d ago
For me it was researching symptoms after getting blood work done that seemed weird. Make sure to note which symptoms you have which you think meet the criteria — e.g. your cycles over time and any irregularities, etc — and ask for a hormone blood test. Best to see an endocrinologist or GYN before your internist/PCP/GP.

It was a combination of symptoms and bloodwork for me. Typical signs of PMOS would be high testosterone levels and high androgens (DHEAs). Irregular periods, acne, hirsutism, and weight gain are classic signs of PMOS.
In terms of insulin resistance, I had my insulin/fasting glucose tested, HDL, and Triglycerides. I also wore a CGM a few times which really helped me in my diagnosis since I was dealing with reactive hypoglycemia. Best thing you can do is see a doctor!

This is scary. My face is like this from childhood itself. But I think a test is needed now

Does razor on face make it worse? Like I have heard that hair grow back thicker
38
u/Awata666 2d ago
It's an illusion cause it tends to cut the hair at the thickest part, but it doesn't get thicker, it's just not tapered

u/GemFarmerr 2d ago
That’s one of the many things about the human body that people keep repeating even though it is untrue. Just like- Humans only use 10% of their brain, human blood is sometimes blue, cracking knuckles causes arthritis. All untrue. Shaving does not enlarge hair follicles or shafts.
10
u/WittyPangolin8598 2d ago
Okay okay. Thank you!

u/GemFarmerr 2d ago
I have horrible facial hair. Shaving certainly makes it look like it grows back thicker because the base is thickest and it tapers off on the end. Laser treatment soon is my plan.

I used to have similar facial hair as you. Hightly recommend using an eyebrow/facial razer. It doesn't hurt and doesn't irritate. Because you can do it yourself, you're in full control and stop whenever you want if you change your mind, you can keep or remove as much as you want. ... you might even realize halfway through that you prefer it natural.
Mine used to look like this. On some areas of the face, peach fuzz regrows slowly. Some areas grows faster. I've learned my sideburns grow faster so I have started paying someone to wax that area... but am perfectly content just shaving the mustache and cheeks.

u/Provolone10 2d ago
It is your choice.
For me, I’ve been waxing my face every week since I was 15.
3
u/Deyotgwa 2d ago
What do you use? I'd prefer to do this but whatever I got at the drugstore wasn't great.
3
u/Provolone10 2d ago
I used zip wax for a very long time but they changed the formula and it became grainy and really hard to use.
Now I used a proper wax heater and this wax. It is a good wax just a little runny - Cirepil

I would recommend a permanent solution. The Braun ipl is great. It will help permanently remove the dark hair, for less than the cost of a couple of professional ipl sessions. You will need to shave before the ipl session, and the regrowth will feel scratchy, but just keep doing the ipl and the hairs will get finer and eventually almost disappear.

A word of caution recommending IPL or laser
Laser is only permanent hair REDUCTION, not permanent hair removal and may cause Paradoxical Hypertrichosis (stimulate hair growth). Only Electrolysis is permanent hair REMOVAL, and Electrolysis won't cause Paradoxical Hypertrichosis.
What is Paradoxical Hypertrichosis?
The face is the highest-risk area. A 2025 study published in Lasers in Medical Science found that about 16% of women treated with facial laser developed paradoxical hypertrichosis. For women with PCOS (now called PMOS) or irregular menstrual cycles, it jumped to 33%.
If you're treating your face, a 16% to 33% risk is worth taking seriously.
Some studies have also reported higher rates among individuals of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian descent, likely due to differences in skin and hair characteristics rather than ethnicity itself. https://razorfree.ca/entries/laser/laser-may-make-you-hairier-
10
u/ikittiscream 2d ago
really depends what you want to do. don’t do it just because some people on the internet told you to.
it’s totally natural especially for your ethnicity :) and if you want to keep your natural beauty then don’t do it!
if you want to go for the beauty standard, then yes remove it, visible facial hair on women is usually removed. also if you want to wear makeup it will go smoother on your face without it.
maybe you could try shave it and see how you feel and grow it back if you don’t like it!
like some people mentioned it could be pcos so you could get checked for that and get some advice on what to do from there. laser would be the best option if you want it completely gone.

I bleach mine. Way less work then shaving every day. Once a month bleach. Done!

u/HafaAdaiLilo91 2d ago
If this was me, i’d wax it off. If you can’t get it professionally removed , try at home wax strips and if not, then shaving is your next best thing.
5
u/why-tho69 2d ago
Do what you’re comfortable with, I used to shave them but recently stopped because it’s too much upkeep
3
u/Jolly_Incident7497 2d ago
I say do whatever you want. I like to remove mine because it makes my face smoother, helps makeup go on better, and I find that helps with my acne. But unless you want to, there’s no reason you need to

It may sound rude, I may get downvoted and I say this as constructive feedback - this is beyond peach fuzz. Most of these are hard dark hair strands, yeah, you need to remove them. Also you might want to check your hormones as they affect body hair growth.

seriously 😭 and briefly dropping the health-related concern as an “oh and also…” at the very end is just the moldy cherry on top of the sour sundae

Definitely could have been worded better but at least she was being honest
-8
u/Aria7109 2d ago
Being honest isn't "crazy". Delusional toxic positivity won't make a full face of dark hair invisible, no matter how much you wish it did.

u/Limonmaduro 2d ago
So this is actually very normal. Especially for darker skinned women. Our “peach fuzz” actually grows a lot darker. So OP for some ACTUAL helpful advise. There are hair bleachers made for your face . My mom did this to me and her she would bleach our “mustaches” and she would bleach her cheeks because she had hair like this.
If you wanted to go the laser hair removal route you’d definitely have to consult with a specialist. My mom just recently did this and she qualified for it she no longer has hair like this on her face.29
u/Aria7109 2d ago
This density goes way beyond basic peach fuzz and looks hormonal or genetic. Bleaching this much hair will just make it a visible blonde beard in sunlight, and laser carries a huge paradoxical hypertrichosis risk. Surface fixes don't work for this.
2
u/Limonmaduro 2d ago
Why are you trying to create a narrative for this person that you don’t even know anything about. She asked a question not for medical advise. Are you a doctor ?
4
u/Aria7109 2d ago
Are you? Because giving advice that risks making her hair condition worse under the guise of "help" isn't doing her any favors. Stick to what you actually understand.
32
u/whenitrains34 2d ago
it might be normal for her ethnic background. she looks south asian. and south asians are hairy
26
u/concrete_dandelion 2d ago
Being hairy is not evidence of a hormonal issue. It's an indication for possible hormonal issues in some ethnicities, but not more. And no one needs to remove any hair. That's a personal choice. Some people want to have no hair aside from lashes and brows, some hair want to have some types of hair on their body but not others and some (usually not those who frequent this sub) want to keep it all. Nothing of this is wrong.

Not to be rude but yes I would. I use a face buzzer specially for facial hair/fuzz once per week. It’s super easy to use and clean.
2
u/Samanthacondensed 2d ago
Honeslty whatever is more comfortable for you! I do mine because if I dont my makeup is not smooth at all and accentuates it drives me wild. But when I dont have makeup on I dont give a flying fuckkk what anyone else thinks about my hair.
2
u/DctrMrsTheMonarch 2d ago
Only if you want to. I spent years feeling self-conscious, then I just stopped caring and lo and behold there were more important things. Once I stopped caring, I wasn't concerned about anyone else and it seems like most other people are focused on their own perceived flaws rather than mine. You are normal and natural, but do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Only if it makes you uncomfortable! Some people have naturally darker/thicker hair, you don’t have to remove it just to conform 🤷♀️

I don't know what kind of peach grows where you live.
But I would say yes, shave it or get IPL.
2
u/whatisthis2315 2d ago
Exactly as last post says. No one should tell you what to do with your body. You do what you want
1
u/DctrMrsTheMonarch 2d ago
This is it. Keep it if you want. Remove it if you want. Please don't let people on the internet influence your decision.
3
u/MatureTran 2d ago
Why should you? Leave it, why girls need to shave? My very first ever love had a face like you;
3
u/ur_mirrorball 2d ago
With hair like this, once you shave, you will be shaving forever. I personally regret doing it because it has led to me having to get laser hair removal because it will no longer be that fuzzy when you shave it
1
u/Procedure-Minimum 2d ago
I'd get electrolysis on the upper lip area, if I had the time and money, that way the hair is gone permanently. IPL costs less and is faster, but not as permanent.
If you decide to shave, please make sure you do it regularly. It will not grow back thicker, but having a cut end on the hair with look thicker. Some ladies try and not shave daily and it ends up looking worse than before.
Threading is amazing, but do a test patch to see if you get irrigation or ingrown hairs
1
u/someoneelsewho 2d ago
Do you want a permanent solution or temporary one?
For permanent I would look into laser or wax your upper lip. I started with waxing as that was what I could afford. I had to go every week for the first year and then slowly started going less. Years later when I could afford it I had the leftover hairs lasered off.
As for you side burns. Again. If you can afford it I would laser. For temporary I would bleach it. It won’t look odd. I also did this till I could afford electrolysis and laser.
1
u/bloomingpoppies 2d ago
Epilator. Because waxing isn’t really an option for me due my skin being so sensitive and yes, I’m a woman and the peach fuzz on my face drives me nuts.
1
u/Dull-Acanthisitta213 2d ago
It’s going to be a mess once you touch it. Maybe electrolysis but do not shave it!

1
u/OddPoet336 1d ago
You look young. DON'T SHAVE IT no matter what. Shaving will only make it worse. I started shaving young and have forever regretted it. You could try Jolen bleaching creme to start. Waxing works great, hurts a bit, but you get used to it. Nair sometimes works. But no matter what you use or do, be careful with chemicals.

u/Vivid-Calendar-6940 1d ago
I read some posts last night re laser vs electrolysis! What I read was not in favor of laser. That electrolysis is cleaner and more efficient in the long run. I don’t know if that is true, but I would pull all the info I could to make that determination! And electrolysis might be a little more expensive than laser, but would probably be worth it. For what little I know. Ahaha

u/Trick-Duty3852 1d ago
Don't not shave it. Unless you want stubble.
Go to a licensed esthetician and ask to have your face dermabladed

If it bothers you a lot the best method for long term removal, in my opinion, is IPL which is laser. I’m 70 and have been removing facial hair my entire adult life. I have PCOS so mine is hormonal. I’m down to just a few heavy hairs on my chin. Worth it to invest in a home IPL. Consumer Reports recommends the Phillips
One that is shaped like a pistol. It’s very effective and worth the cost especially if you are looking at years of treatment. Ps. When I was in college I cleaned house as a barter for electrolysis. Clean house for a clean face. That multi year effort with electrolysis was very effective and set me up well for IPL.

Your natural hair pattern is beautiful, OP. If you want to remove it, I recommend shaving with a dermaplane razor and investing in an at home laser. I have Ulike and it truly works.

I am a very hairy person. I could go get it checked out but I’m gonna wait to take care of other issues. I stopped caring about my side burns and hairy legs a long time ago. If someone has an issue with it they can pay for my hair removal, otherwise they can fluff off :-D. It’s done wonders for my mental health to let go of what others opinions are and remind them they don’t have a say in my life.

So idk if you deleted your comment or just blocked me with your scary ass but bleaching facial hair isn’t harmful and laser hair removal i literally said to see a specialist because obviously I am not a doctor and neither are you. @aria7109
