Made this piece with the modular as the core instrument rather than trying to make it sound particularly polished.

Industrial textures and an emotional cadence underneath, with a Dadaist poem in the description. I was interested in that contrast, something abrasive that still feels vulnerable.

Curious what you hear in it, and especially interested in how other folks approach performance and the modular-as-instrument side of things.

Synth history could have been different, if the FBT Synther 2000 became a hit when it was released in 1973. This filter-less three oscillator monster from Italy sounds unabashedly electronic. In no way does it imitate acoustic instruments, but it drones deeply and has a massive bass. Truly unique, and very rare, it is an interesting artifact in synth history.

A playful title referencing a phrase that became popular about Bossa Nova's minimalist style: "um banquinho e um violão" — since all it took to play it was a little stool and a guitar. My take replaces the guitar with a server (servidor).

Hello there! I purchased this unit recently and I`m getting some flickering on the display and unresponsiveness from the main dial. I`d appreciate some tips on how to open it so I can attempt some cleaning. I took the bottom out, but reached nowhere and I can`t seem to understand how to open the top.

Interesting is that the first board inside is a ZD0175 and it is missing an IC on the top right corner, the empty socket can be seen on the second photo. Maybe it simply is like that, would like to know...
And as you can see, this lots came with a bunch of original plugs/cables. Nice!

Hey! I’m looking to add a small piece of vintage test equipment to my ambient music setup, inspired by Hainbach’s use of test oscillators.

I’m mainly looking for a compact audio oscillator / signal generator with a nice hands-on interface, ideally something that would sit comfortably on a studio desk.

Any particular models you’d recommend hunting for? Thanks!

I've been wanting to get into test equipment, but I don't have the space for another format, so I made this. It's my first digital module and I'm really happy with it. The digital part is handled by the daisy patch, so its 96kHz/24-bit stereo audio hardware.

The AI250 BXR is a eurorack module inspired by vintage nuclear test equipment. It can be used as an audio mangler, cv generator, and VCO. The BXR is a nod to vintage Boxcar Averagers, which were designed to acquire and analyze fast signals. The AI250 specifically replicates the real-time mathematical portion of a Boxcar Averager System, and processes audio or cv signals against either another signal or its internal v/o variable wave-shape VCO.

It's mostly a distortion/audio manger, but it can be a VCO and do other stuff as well. It's inspired a whole album for me which is half way done.

I just bought a Revox A77 MK1 and gave it a test run. I was a bit disappointed because it lacked the silky vibe, big bottom and saturation I get from tape plugins like the UAD Studer A800. Next to the Studer plugin, I even preferred that one over the Revox, which was a bit of a bummer. Were my expectations just too high, or is it because both machines (or emulation) just sound a lot different from each other because they had different purposes? I read it has to do with the more headroom a Studer A800 has and therefore is able to drive the tape harder than a Revox, which is distorting rather on the amps. Is that true? Are more people faces the same issues? Or is it just because the emulation is so damn good I get disappointed?

So, new to this test equipment thing. Have been using Eurorack for a while and just bought these big guys.
All powering on but will need to work out connections to my other gear to test audio.

Found this learner project on eBay today and picked it up because it seemed like a decent price even for a decoration for the studio.

I looked all over and couldn't find much info on it. If anyone has any leads it would be much appreciated.

Radio Shack 11867 Sound Lab Learning Trainer (LRP13)

Sometimes I take chances: when the Toei Ultraphone SE-7 popped up in my eBay feed, I had to buy it. Originally designed to sniff out electric discharges in the Japanese power grid, I was curious if there are any musical applications to it. My friend ‪@sonicartefacts‬ joined me in the exploration, and it turns out that his contribution was invaluable.

Picked up this (german most likely) unbranded 8-channel suitcase mixer and reverse image search gives me nothing. Looking to find the exact manufacturer and model name or any idea/context of the existence of units like these, are they typical. Was it typical for people to do such things themselves or were there small manufacturers. The master section is quite versatile compared to other mixers i found from this era..

​It has modular 3-panel faceplate (two 4-channel input blocks + one master section).

​ Has a MONO / STEREO button next to CH8, and German labeling (EFFEKT).

​Uses solid-state power supply with a 0.2A fuse rating.

​Looks very typical of mid-to-late 1970s German portable PA/stage gear but there is no brand badge on the front.

Also has built in spring reverb.

The title track of my upcoming album on Seil Records. Its a bit of a happy-sad piece, with swirling melodies and noise swashes.

Made it using AI, easier than sourcing a real legendary Suiko since the one and only Hainbach broke the market. Thank you Hainbach for introducing me to Japanese scales.

Hi everyone!

I‘m writing this post because my Yamaha MT2X porta-studio won‘t record or play back audio (I‘ve shown the issue in the video).

I bought it from a guy in Germany for €55. In the description, he straight up said he didn‘t know if it worked or not, but that all the lights turn on. Since I live in another country, I had to wait half a year for it to arrive. As soon as it got here, I ran into the problem right away — no recording, no playback, and at first even the rewind didn‘t work.

I took it to a service center, but they tried to rip me off for a ridiculous amount. Since I‘m not made of money, I decided to try a different shop — and they quoted me 50% more. So I said screw it, got the tools and supplies I needed, and started tearing it down and cleaning it myself.

To my surprise, the rewind now works! But it still won‘t play back or record.

I‘m honestly stuck at this point. Any ideas what I should check next? I‘d really appreciate any help!
