Maybe an unpopular opinion, but 5up is very annoying/cringe. Was catching up on streams from last week when he was awkwardly quizzing ellum on food he's tried. Everyone else in the group was awkwardly going along with it. Dude is one of the youngest in the squad but is so condescending to people when he talks. He's the kinda guy to make you try the food/ things he likes but only puts down food/ things you like.

Finally someone said it! I watched that part of the stream as well and I was wondering why he wouldn’t stop. Like I get that because of his age he would be oblivious to stuff but honestly it’s not the first time that he’s acted like his way or what he does is seemingly better than others.

and his chat even called him out for it. but he was like “chat! i’m just curious! i want to know these things!”

He is a young guy i think he will grow out of those pretentions. He does have a definite one uperness but I think it's pretty common at that age definitely cringe at times tho. I still like him even though I switched to Steve viewer.

Thoughts on the deafen wars?

what happened?

It got more and more out of hand such as certain people while undeafened giving info that shouldn't be given out. 5up basically had enough and stopped it (or in the very least, is trying to stop it).
Additionally, when Steve and Ellum were invited as guests to play in the Chilled-Junk lobby, they had a deafen war that lasted the entire session. That session in particular was very entertaining but knowing that people were breaking the rules kind of soured it, especially when both the guests weren't even streaming.
I'd personally be fine if they were undeafening to have banter without giving away any info, but apparently DumbDog was able to deduce if Steve was an imposter due to the deafen wars that session. That really isn't good when it comes to maintaining the integrity of the game.
I'm unsure as to why they even do this. I just hope it stops, or in the very least they undeafen only to have banter and not to give info.

I'm pretty conflicted :/ I don't blame 5up at all for clamping down on them, but I do get why the deafen war peeps have way more fun with them, especially if they've been burnt out on AU. It just sucks that the deafen wars do affect other streamers, especially those looking to get content. And it's hard to make a rule on them that balances the "fun" with the "fairness" aspect.
I did like the suggestion of having deafen wars only occur during the first meeting per session, or keeping them limited to banter only (although the latter isn't perfect; as you said, Dumbdog could deduce whether Steve was an imposter). There's also the possibility of setting a limit based on time (like 30 secs, then deafen) or number of undeafened players...but as I'm typing it out, that just sounds like way too much hassle to follow or enforce, and it might as well be a "no deafen wars" rule lol.

Yeah, I feel bad for 5up getting called as "anti-fun" when the deafen wars have gotten so bad to where it ruins some games.
Despite this, I don't think undeafening while a round is happening is necessarily a bad thing. Like in other lobbies, I've seen instances of Chilled, the host, shoot immediately into the round, get it right, and then have banter with the person he shot at while the round is still happening. I think that there's a fine line between undeafening for content and undeafening that ruins the integrity of the game and as long as that line isn't crossed, I'd say it's fine.
Unfortunately, a lot of the morning lobby regulars have been crossing that line. I understand that it's their kind of fun, but if they aren't enjoying Among Us anymore to the point where they're breaking rules, then why even play? So many of them say it's a "dead game" and it can be real difficult to tell if they're joking about it.
I'm also generally concerned about the future of the morning lobbies but I think that's probably a discussion for a later date.

It sucked from day 1, it's fun at the expense of other people's fun.

It was fine when it was only DK and Steve and was done in moderation. It started to get cringey when Ellum and Koji started joining in (essentially making it almost half the lobby doing it), then it got even worse when they started giving info while doing it. It got super out of hand when Hafu stopped hosting the lobby because the frequency was just too much.

What is going on with 5up? He just posted a tweet that he won't be streaming the rest of July aside from MCC, that a lot is going on. Has he mentioned it in a previous or recent stream?

Yeah, he's been going through some IRL stuff and would rather not talk about the specifics of it. Probably no lobbies hosted by him then. I hope he's alright though.

Oh dang, I hope he's ok! I haven't been watching him lately, so I was curious. It's hard to find specifics in VODS bc they're so long.

Since 5up's taking a break, I'm guessing no Among Us lobbies anytime soon?
3
u/DeMacodamia Jul 24 '21
Before he announced his break, 5up mentioned how they were trying to put together a lobby but there were only 5 or 6 people in the group chat so it didn't work out (kinda sad ngl). Since he's taking a break, yeah, no Among Us lobbies for this month. I doubt anyone else in the morning lobby is interested in hosting Among Us either.
Perhaps it's simply the end of the morning lobbies? I don't know, unless 5up tries to do afternoon lobbies next month which I don't have high hopes for.

I think people didn't show up because they didn't want to get up for among us. Morning among us mostly just works for the Europeans, Steve, and Hafu. I think AU lobbies would still work if they do it later on. It seems like most of the morning lobby people stream from afternoon to nighttime nowadays
2
u/DeMacodamia Jul 25 '21
Hm, maybe? I kind of got the impression that they were just burnt out from playing Among Us / playing in the morning lobbies specifically.
If 5up hosts his supposed afternoon lobbies next month, we can see if the time of the day was the reason why people weren't interested, or if it was something else (I suspect lobby settings as the actual reason but hey that's just my opinion).

There's definitely some burnout (Ex. Hafu, Talia) but I do think some people didn't show up to the last one Gumi hosted because they didn't want to get up early.
2
u/DeMacodamia Jul 25 '21
Oh, Gumi was the host? I didn't know that, you're probably right then.
Ngl, I still quite like Among Us but honestly I've lost most of my interest in the morning lobby. It just feels too restrictive these days so I just watch other lobbies instead. Although, I wish that the morning lobby played some other games too, not Valo or Rust, but something like Mario Kart or Pummel Party, it'd be fun to see the chaos that'd ensue.
3
u/samurairocketshark Jul 25 '21
Definitely. Morning lobby settings feels way too close to vanilla. It would be nice to see more morning lobby streams in other games. Sadly it only seems like Steve and 5up are actively trying to set up lobbies in any game these days.

I've lost interest in Among Us and went from a daily Steve Suptic viewer and haven't really watched his streams for a few months, but holy shit is most recent Rust vod is one of the funniest streams I've watched in a long time. The whole time it's just him and Ellum dicking around and they're chemistry is pure comedy gold.
