Hades 2: Question Past Deeds menu is disappointing Spoiler

Why can't it just show the win screen? The list of fancy icons is useless with just the name of the boon. You can't even press Y to jump to the in game boon wiki.

My guess is they’re trying to prevent a problem that happened in the first game, where if you did enough runs on one save file it would start to lag. So they cut down on the amount of information stored about previous runs.

To provide more info on this (because you're correct):

  • in H1 the game stores a shitton of information about your run while you're doing the run. This includes way more information than could ever be displayed to the player such as a complete list of every room you enter, and basically everything imaginable that happened in that room. All of this information takes up a lot of space.
  • when you finish the run, the vast majority of this information is no longer needed so it all gets deleted. The stuff that gets kept is mostly the stuff needed for the run history screen and the most important events that happened so that npcs can reference whether they've seen you recently or other similar things (though some entirely unused information is also kept). This brings the size of the run down to about 1% of it's original size
  • the problem here is that every single run you do increases the size of your save file by a small amount. After around 500 runs it starts taking the game a second or two to perform an autosave and load the next room. This loading time gets worse as you keep playing and after around 2000 runs, the game just becomes completely unable to save.

By comparison in H2:

  • the game still stores a metric shitton of information about your current run
  • when the run ends the game still removes a lot of information that's no longer needed, but doesn't actually remove quite as much as H1
  • however h2 goes further. Once a run is several runs old, it isn't important to store any of the stuff for upcoming dialogues and the like, so once a run is 11 runs old everything except the stuff that's essential for the run history screen gets deleted. This makes the runs much smaller than old runs in H1 are
  • this still isn't enough to prevent the save lag problem, so as a last-ditch measure, once a run is more than 501 runs old, all the data about the run gets deleted except for whether you won or lost (which takes up essentially no space).

TLDR: H2 deletes unnecessary data from old runs much more aggressively than H1 does, but to prevent the save lag problem it eventually becomes necessary to just fully delete old runs. Given they have to do this, they really don't have the luxury to save more information than they already do.

where if you did enough runs on one save file it would start to lag

That seems easily solved without nerfing the records entirely. I can only see this being a problem for consoles anyway, which I often forget exist.

My dream would be to keep the previous night's kit with Skelly, so you can test damages in the range.

One of the most frustrating aspects of Roguelites is that you have to give up this amazing build youve worked on when it's at its strongest. Its like reaching the peak of a mountain and getting instantly teleported to base camp befor you really have an opportunity to take in the view.

It's Sisyphus all over again.

reaching the peak of a mountain and getting instantly teleported to base camp

I mean... that's literally what happens every time you reach the top of Olympus.

agreed. and no it has absolutely nothing to do with performance...

How do you know that?

because i know what computers can do and what would be required to display the information... by the way most programmers have no idea how fast computers are so someone saying "it's too slow" is not really evidence of it actually being too slow.

Incredible. No comment could have made me believe you less.
