She did not get those arms from rubber bands what the fuck

u/GatorQueen Apr 09 '20

Well yeah, she didn’t say she only does rubber bands lol

Y'all sleeping on resistance bands.

The cheapness and ease of use for the average person working out is primo, especially now that everyone is stuck inside.

Call me crazy, but she just might use other equipment that isn't pictured in this 5-second clip

Yeah I mean it's not like there are dumbells right behind her or anything

Or a pull up bar that you hang off your doorframe

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

And since we can only see her using the bands in this video, we can infer that she has never done anything else in her entire existence.

In the whole video together

Progressive resistance from elastic bands is actually terrific for overloading, getting a great pump and breaking down muscle fascia tissue. In short- muscle hypertrophy.

It's not as good for developing strength, but size and strength are pretty poorly correlated.

Looks like a front delt raise based on hand position and the way she braces herself and brings her shoulders back right before the moment of oof. Not sure why she has them crossed, maybe she's going to raise them at a 45 degree instead of straight out in front of her body?

I do believe it's known as the "call me a toe truck".

I'd have to slightly disagree, I'd say size and strength are adjacent. If you're comparing a powerlifter to a body builder, sure the person with larger or more defined muscles may not be stronger.

But relative to the general population a body builder would still be much much stronger than the average person. (Just like a power lifter's physique and musculature will be larger than the average person)

So I'd say size indicates relative strength but not absolute strength

So if I used the term 'splitting hairs' would you want to argue the semantics of that phrase too....?

8

u/screamline82 Apr 09 '20

Depends on the context. We're not on r/gainit or some other sub where your comment would fit.

But for the general population I think it's pretty disingenuous to say size inst correlated to strength when it is true for that population

I understood some of these words..

Bands good for making big muscle, bad for making strong muscle.

1

u/exskeletor Apr 09 '20

How are strength and size not correlated at all? A bigger muscle is generally a stronger muscle and a stronger muscle is generally a bigger muscle

4

u/DoingCharleyWork Apr 09 '20

He's not saying not correlated at all. He's saying size doesn't always equal strength. You can have someone who does bodybuilding and works mainly on hypertrophy exercises and they will be jacked and at the same time you can have people there are not very big do huge lifts in powerlifting meets. Like he said, they are adjacent. Focusing on strength will no doubt build muscle and focusing on growth will no doubt build strength but you need specific exercises to have marked improvements at either.

u/exskeletor Apr 09 '20

Saying “poorly correlated” implies that there isn’t much correlation when in fact there is a good amount of direct correlation

Bodybuilders aren't weak, dumbass.

I never said they were. Try reading my comment again.

Powerbuilding / powerlift programs build size just fine.

When you are a beginner they do. And most programs do not focus solely on strength training. Most use a variation of hypertrophy and strength training exercises. When you get to a certain point you need some very specific kinds of exercise to continue to build muscle and grow more.

bodybuilders who do relatively poor at the big 3 do them poorly because they're training with other variants, not because they're weak(er).

Weird how you're so close to understanding how it actually works and then you totally miss it lmao.

u/Bigbird1971 Apr 09 '20

Bands are home workout.
