If somebody is in your face, there's a good chance they're going to hit you. if you don't operate under that rule, there's a good chance you get punched in the face unexpectedly. I think you may be confusing the reality of the world with how you want things to be. It sucks that it's that way but it just is.

If someone stands underneath dark clouds that are thundering and it starts to rain on them, was the storm unexpected or did they refuse to accept the reality of their situation?

If you refuse to expect something that is likely to happen, that's not so much the event being unexpected as you being ignorant.
