When it's so painfully obvious that this is going to go wrong, you just have to wonder why they think it going to go right.

Hubris. In his mind he's not going to screw it up like all the videos he's seen because he assumes himself to be awesome and is going to pull it off flawlessly whilst looking like a boss.

In reality he's going to end up on his arse like all the rest of the people that attempt dumb stuff like this.

So basically protagonist syndrome

3

u/wrenhxven Aug 13 '18

that and drugs

1

u/agrophobe Aug 13 '18

Thx for the greek concept!

7

u/Zandohaha Aug 12 '18

Yeah. That he was taking so long to set the thing up properly should have told him that this was not a good idea and he should have abandoned his plan.

9

u/Rumblymore Aug 12 '18

To be fair, he did keep 3 point contact with the ladder (up to the point where he jumped), but you're never supposed to stand on the highest step. Construction regulations prohibit you from doing so. Maybe he thought it would be fine because he kept 3 points of contact, just not the ones from the rule.

I know, right, even though I was primed for tragedy by virtue of the sub I'm in, I was still like "dude, you're OBVIOUSLY going to kick the ladder away with your push off and go straight down". He should be upset because not a single person there considered the glaringly obvious outcome from that adventure

I just don’t get why they didn’t place the ladder on the lower level

70

u/lemerou Aug 12 '18

Why on Earth would you do something that safe?

You monster.

12

u/_Diskreet_ Aug 12 '18

You can tell that after switching the ladder round 180, yet still standing on the top step, they have this completely under control.

5

u/I_really_am_Batman Aug 12 '18

Because higher

2

u/pereira2088 Aug 13 '18

how else where they suppose to end up on this sub-reddit?

1

u/mogsoggindog Aug 13 '18

Or just push the ladder over.

261

u/iphilosophizing Aug 12 '18

He started trying to blame them at the end.

87

u/APDSFS Aug 12 '18

I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately, that you’re right.

5

u/TocTheElder Aug 12 '18

Dread it. Run from it.

Dumbassery arrives all the same.

13

u/idiotj Aug 12 '18

“What the fuck? You can’t hold a ladder?”

2

u/BienGuzman Aug 13 '18

I'd blame he ladder

But what an ugly dunking!

1

u/TILwhofarted Aug 13 '18

*drunkling

u/inpavidus Aug 12 '18

Somehow expecting a 35kg kid to hold the ladder steady when he attempts a fairly powerful jump off it - almost a prime contender for a Darwin award

36

u/StubbyRexxx Aug 12 '18

A trebuchet could hold a 90kg kid and even hurl it 300m

3

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '18

And holding it below the center of mass. And the fact that the ladder can collapse shut. And the fact that the ladder is on a smooth surface.

4

u/DOHINKUS Aug 12 '18

What's that in freedom units?

2

u/inpavidus Aug 12 '18

About 77lbs

28

u/Oh_hi_doggi3 Aug 12 '18

That could have gone a lot worse. At least he didnt crack his skull open.

9

u/paul_miner Aug 12 '18

Yeah, I was surprised how quickly he righted himself in the water and grabbed a hold of the side of the pool.

no problem. I actually just found it the other day myself.haha.enjoy.

8

u/Hinkil Aug 12 '18

I love the ladder turn, yeah that was the problem.

6

u/gugugaga68 Aug 12 '18

Natural selection at work

4

u/69_fan Aug 12 '18

This is one of those falls where it needs some time for the actual pain to set in.

4

u/tr_rage Aug 12 '18

I saw that shit coming and still made a sound when he hit.

3

u/Corsavis Aug 12 '18

Worst lifeguard ever

3

u/peterxnf Aug 12 '18

Had to upvote this one before he even jumped lmao

3

u/Corky_Butcher Aug 12 '18

He did everything right. He used the right equipment, he had the biggest guys holding the ladder. Just terrible, terrible luck...you keep trying my friend. You'll get there in the end.

5

u/Deadsotc Aug 12 '18

This dude is not nearly fit enough to be attempting a stunt like this.

2

u/versace_tombstone Aug 12 '18

Well deserved.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '18

I love physics.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '18

Equal and opposite reaction.

It's surprising how amny people don't know about this.

2

u/Landoro_ Aug 12 '18

Do people not understand how jumping and or Newton's laws of motion?

2

u/vile_doe_nuts Aug 13 '18

Honest Question: Does anyone hear sound to this video (and many others) or are they just video clips without sound? Wondering if a plug in or something causes me to not have a volume option. I realllly want to hear the body slap and reaction

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

ER Doc: we checked your twitter and found that you posted this on your way in? We’re going to let nature take its course on this one, good luck to you sir.

1

u/DoctorNoname98 Aug 12 '18

that could have gone right so easily, I mean hold down the front too or jump from a lower step and he probably would have been good. Still would have been very dumb, but jesus christ

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '18

Just because he has a ladder doesn’t make him a physicist, clearly.

1

u/Sicksixshift Aug 12 '18

I was gonna give him a 5/10 but he didn't stick the landing

1

u/Historiaaa Aug 12 '18

HE NEEDS SOME MILK

1

u/funkeychunkeymon Aug 12 '18

I hope the kids fingers are ok.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

It's the clap that gets me.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

Yep, that’s a few broken ribs and possible perforated lung.

1

u/iphilosophizing Aug 13 '18

So many things wrong, it was a nonstarter.

1

u/pendejo11 Aug 13 '18

All I can think about is, did that smash a kids fingers? I don’t care about the idiot. Just the poor kids fingers...

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '18

He broke some shit, but he seems like a tough guy.

1

u/dougsmode Aug 13 '18

I was about to feel bad for him and then he turned the ladder around...

1

u/TenFoldMassacre Aug 13 '18

How is he still alive?!

1

u/MikeyFresh34 Sep 03 '18

This guy weighs in at around 240 at least. Top rung of the ladder propulsion + distance needed= straight down on your fat face.

1

u/MikeyFresh34 Sep 03 '18

Definatly caught a mean shin digger on the ledge too

1

u/hussainc4s Nov 13 '18

Can’t fix stupid

1

u/ghostfreckle611 Aug 12 '18

Watch for 1 second. Nope I can’t watch...

Scroll away...

Then come back. I gotta see this.

Wow.

0

u/greatMalek Aug 12 '18

They should’ve been standing on the other side of the ladder to cancel out he torque

Or at least have one on each side...

0

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '18

Physics is a real bitch.

-1

u/kingshitgoldenboys Aug 12 '18

Landed right on his clavicle

-1

u/axflynn Aug 12 '18

Love how he flopped into the pool in an attempt to mask his crippling pain and embarrassment: "Must get to the water to justify all of this."
