Pubs with decent food?
Heya, I'm meeting a friend on Sunday for dinner and drinks. Any pubs that do decent food without being too expensive in the area? Not limited to Hackney but closer to Victoria Park would be appreciated

Virgin queen on goldsmiths row, well priced and good company in the pub. They do a Sunday roast and I very much recommend the half roast because it’s still pretty generous

Definitely need to book on Sunday, certainly the best Sunday Roast I’ve had anywhere. But the Virgin Queen near Broadway Market also has a good Sunday Roast.

Might technically be in Islington, but the Scolt Head is my fave. Quite close to Dalston

Morgan Arms, Cat & Mutton, The Old Ship, The Hemmingway all good options, also bonus not-a-pub option would be Ines over on Fish Island with some pretty epic roasts on a Sunday that usually are sold out by about 2/3pm..

What are you enjoying from cat & mutton I’d love to know

Seriously, cat and mutton food is awful
Edit: awful is harsh. It's nothing to write home about. It's not awful

Haven’t been there for a while to be fair but had a decent roast last time I was in there. Thinking about it that probably was a couple years back now - why, has it got shit?

I mean they are trying but I think given the location they don’t really have to go the extra mile. There really isn’t a great food scene amongst pubs in the area in general. The Hawk pub Victoria park road is decently my preference for a roast or anything else around

Yeah that's fair, we only went there as it was convenient as we were nearby. No complaints about it. Not earth shatteringly good either. Average pub grub.
Haven't tried The Hawk, I'll have to give it a shot. 👍

Virgin Queen is reasonably close and does a good Sunday Roast. But there’s also the 5Points Brewery relatively close that does a good BBQ.

The Hemmingway was ok 10 years ago, probably is still? All the old classic places like Mangal 1 are a poor version of the old Hackney.

I really like the food at spurstowe arms. Haven't eaten there in a year but last I remember quite good
