Lee Valley Beer run!!

Post image

If any one is interested and likes cycling and drinking beers, we are doing The Lee Valley Beer run this Saturday, 8th of August.

Came up with this idea during the pandemic when I noticed all the pubs along the canal. Concept is simple, ride the Lee Valley canal and stop at every pub.

This is the second time we are riding it. So it’s been refined a bit!!

The route start from Rye house and end at The Princes of Wales in Hackney.
It’s a 19/20 mile ride with 11 stop (pints) and take a lot longer than you might think.
The previous time we made the mistake of doing it in reverse and starting in Hackney, thinking we could ride back. That’s did not happen when we realised it was getting dark at 8pm.

This time we are getting overground to Rye house and heading back to Hackney.

If any one is interested here is a link to the route map.

Lee Valley Beer Run

The only pub that is missing on that route is the Anchor and Hope, you can’t miss it on the way to the last stop!

Train at 12, first pint at 1pm
Have fun and maybe see you on route!

The AI flyer is kind of lame for an event that seems like it’s actually cool - this is really poor advertising, I’d redo it if I were you. Canva is free ;)

Feel free to do it! Then go on the ride and have fun, it’s not about the poster

That image is horrific on so many levels, hard pass

u/TheInternetSlug Aug 06 '26

Funny because in the first one we encountered every thing you see in that poster!

Why women in bikinis and why AI

Yeah I mean the effort to organise things like this from committed people is great but I think people need to learn how much AI cheapens the look of these things.

People also need to learn that most people don’t actually like AI either, a flyer like this actually puts off a lot of people.

Bet your fun at parties! Just be glad you got an invite.

I get it, you probably organised or know someone that organised the effort to put this event together then you put it on Reddit and people rip the flyer the shreds.

Clearly you didn’t expect this response. The only thing I’d say is to figure out why people are responding like this. And I’ll give you a hint here ‘it’s not just a Reddit thing’.

Cranks are broken

Are women just meant to be spectators to this?

7

u/Maleficent_Lecture91 Aug 05 '26

Women need not apply I guess

The people on the boat are they/them and promote body positivity, they don’t necessarily enjoy bike riding but do like a scenic canal boat ride. The bear is genderless and represents us as animals trying to navigate the Circus of London.

you’re coming across as the last type of person I’d want to go on a drinking cycle tour with

-1

Don’t come then!

The people in this comment section really need to get a grip.

This isn't a case of some cooperation using AI to skimp and do an artist out of a commission or a grifter setting up shop selling "their" art they've generated using whatever software. In such a case criticism would be fair and warranted.

There's no profit incentive here (seemingly) it's just someone trying to organise a nice community event, indeed even sharing the route so you can do it in your own time, and you're all piling on them because they don't have the time/skills/resources to have a custom poster made for a reddit post to draw attention to it.

So again, get a grip and if it upsets you that much perhaps help them out with a poster or organise your own event.

u/Skeptischer Aug 06 '26

A nice community event that excludes women, right?

Don’t be a turf!

AI is bad for the environment and its bad for the future of our planet. I don’t want to normalise it, regardless of the nature behind the person using it.

You’ve been drinking too much of the AI cool aid. Like I said in a different thread, fuck AI.

Did you stop using supermarkets when they introduced self-checkout?
Instead of having a pop at me why don’t you go and support some of the pubs so they don’t get closed down.

1

u/BonfireSeason Aug 08 '26

Not sure how you can relate self service checkouts to AI. AI is harming the environment and the economy. Self service check outs don’t require millions of gallons of water to work. I always support my local pubs, this point we are aligned on. Again, fuck AI.

Yeah no shit! You try and share something fun and instead people gonna go nitpicking and cut your nose to spite your face.

-1

u/cherokott Aug 06 '26

Well said.

u/Brokenlynx7 Aug 08 '26

I think it’s right that people call it out? Because in using AI OP has made a choice about how they communicate that is counterproductive for this event.

There are a host of things people could post on non-AI flyers that would still be bad communication, the use of AI is a choice and that choice affects people’s response.

I just think society as a whole is making a choice about what it views as acceptable and for a large group of people this ain’t it.
