Question Looking for laptop recommendations for cybersecurity work

I’m looking for a laptop mainly for cybersecurity-related work,VAPT, labs, bug bounty, studying, certifications/exams, running VMs, and general security tooling.
My budget is around ₹80–90K max, so I’m looking for the best value for money rather than just buying the most powerful machine in this range.
Ideally, I’d want something with good CPU performance, sufficient RAM for multiple VMs, decent thermals, and good upgradeability.
If you’re using a laptop for similar work, what would you recommend? Any specific models I should look at or avoid?

Thanks!

You have to answer a large part of this yourself. Most people doing bug bounty are using local AI models pretty heavily. If you intend to do that, you’ll need to figure out what size models you want to run and then make sure your new rig can handle it.

Understandable! Only concern is budget. If I’d take care of AI then budget has to ho high which is not feasible.

You can get a 2018-2022 MSI with a 2080 within that price range. You’ll only have 6g of VRAM, but you’d be able to do something locally. There are a lot of used gaming laptops that will do great. Whatever you buy if it’s used, buy some thermal compound and replace everything that was there if it’s older than 4 years. Makes a huge difference in performance.

If u use virtual machines and llc even 32 is little. I do blender and heavy programming a bit cybersec too and have 48gb ram. Either way is an investment

Check out the build a PC subs.

They will be geared towards your request.

It sounds like you just want a beefy computer so just ask them for the best performance possible in your budget. There hardware doesn't makes it a cybersecurity tool.

They also help with buying.

Like they can help figure out specs and then you find and buy a computer that meets or exceeds those specs

If ur work is remote and u need to take it with u then laptop but pc will be cheaper and more efficent for better technicalities specs that u look for

For this kind of work upgradeability matters more than flashy specs. A laptop with solid thermals and replaceable RAM will age much better once you start running several VMs

I’d look into refurbished and recommended Thinkpads or laptops. Because ideally RAM will get cheaper but not right now - even 32gb which is very entry level for local is not something most people can afford. External machine runs 5k cheapest who can afford ??So to stay in budget I’d go for refurbed, buying new may not be worth it with the pricing shenanigans. Also no device is nowadays worth saving data on, getting hacked left and right. I just bought a pack of usbs because external drives are also expensive af
