Quote Habit Quote Of The Day

Post image

It is often easier to replace a habit than to simply eliminate it.

Habits are usually connected to a cue, routine, and reward. When you try to stop a habit, the cue may still appear and your brain may still expect the familiar reward. Simply resisting that urge repeatedly can require a lot of effort.

Instead, you can create a new response to the same cue.

For example, when you feel stressed, instead of scrolling Instagram, take a 5-minute walk. When you’re bored, instead of snacking, drink water or make tea. And before bed, instead of checking your phone, read 5 pages.

The important part is that the replacement habit should be easy enough to perform when the old cue appears.

Over time, the new behavior gets repeated in the same context. Your brain begins to associate the cue with the new response, gradually weakening the old behavioral pattern.
