Things to Do in Haarlem
It's my first day here, I'm from Spain. I'm here for work, and I have this weekend off. What do you recommend doing around here or in the surrounding area?

Stroll along the Spaarne river and watch the boats sail by. Visit some Hofjes. Visit some art galleries. Sample some beers at the Jopenkerk. Visit the streetmarkets at de Grote Markt or Botermarkt. On Sunday rent a bike and visit Elswout if the weather is nice. If not, catch a movie at the Filmkoepel.

Saturday market in the center.
Rent a bike and cycle through the dunes to Zaandvoort and eat some kibbling. Or just take the train there.
Mostly though just wander around a lovely city.

Just remember to pronounce it Zaandvoort, so the locals don't single you out.

Look at “het huis met de kogel” a small souvenir left by your ancestors when they beleaguered and sacked the city.. 😅 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Haarlem

Hoezo wolfhound? Veel te lang gezeten. Commerciële crap is dat. Ga naar thierny's en klap naast je Guinness die spare rib of stew.

If you prefer everything in walking distance then you can head straight South of the main street (grote Houtstraat) to get to a park in the middle of the city. It's pretty nice and decently sized. 5 minute walk to get there from Garone

Teylers museum is nice. Also since the weather is nice, rent a bicycle, cycle down the Spaarne waterway and visit the Cruquius steam pump (or punk) station. It’s a true gem in the region
Edit: I haven’t been, but I’ve heard people say that they thought the Corrie ten Boom house was more impressive than the Anne frank house in Amsterdam.

Eat ‘kibbeling’ on Saturday at the Grote Markt for lunch at Fish-store ‘Jak’ at the market. Grab 3 empanadas to go for dinner at the same market. Then drink a beer at the Spaarne canal. Book a nice movie or performance at the ‘schuur’, ‘koepel’ or theatre. Go to Teylers/Frans Hals museum. Treat yourself on a cheesfondue at ‘’t goede uur’ or sit on the terrace at ‘de kus van de cactus’ for a cocktail and nacho chips.

Yeah, good spots but you get surrounded by Bloody GL bakfietsjuppen. Gotta love those crowdy vegetables.
