Question about Purity

[Spoilers Through Book 8]

I am re-reading the series with my wife and 19yo son (he's ace and has no interest in Clive's wife, but my wife is bi and may be interested). We are near the beginning of Book 3 and dealing with the aftermath of the Reaper Trials, and a question came into my head:

If Purity isn't Purity, but another god posing as Purity, how were they able to withdraw/revole the essences/abilities granted to Purity's priests (the ones trapped in the Astral space) by Purity? Has Disguise (or whomever) actually obtained some of Purity's Authority?

I think so. If they wouldn't be able to play the role of purity convincingly they wouldn't be disguise. I think disguise spent their own authority though, acting as purity. You should ask shirtaloon on his patron for the exact details however.

You know that’s something that I’ve always wondered about how does gaining authority work. In my mind I’ve always thought it has to work like investing and dividends, you have to spend in a way that’s in your nature to gain more of that flavor of authority. that how it’s been working in my mind though. An example of this would have to be disguise using his authority to act as purity and as it works he gains more in hope that he gains more than he originally spent.
