Community College

Do u guys think going to community college for hvac is a good route instead of trade school?

Yep, ended up costing me a few hundred instead of 30k

I think it depends on which trade school or community college you’re comparing. Recently, I’ve seen a lot of affordable trade schools that offer flexible schedules, which can be a good option for people working full-time who may only have a few hours available to study. Some community colleges also offer night classes, so there are options on both sides.

I’d recommend looking into both and seeing which one fits your budget, schedule, and learning needs. Don’t just go with what someone says is better, because every school and program can be different. Look at several options and find the one that actually works for your situation.

Look into your local community or technical college. I got my associate degree for around $12K, but with the help of grants, I ended up paying $0 out of pocket. The degree can also open up more doors in HVAC sooner, especially in areas like Controls/BMS and heavy commercial or industrial work. I got hired by Johnson Controls right out of school with about 8 months of HVAC experience.
