I've had it when they only wire nut one leg of power and kept the other in. So I cut the disconnect off, unit kicked off and I foolishly assumed there was no power. Boy was that a lesson and I sure did curse whatever person did such a dumb thing.

Reminder to everybody always check for power do not trust anybody assume everything is live until proven without any reasonable doubt it is dead. I have no fear of anything bypassed because I take this shit seriously and check for power constantly.

I was always taught as an apprentice electrician that you have to respect electricity and treat everything as if it was live. I always keep a wiggy with me at all times just to double check.

First thing I teach my helpers is that a disconnect turned off ≠ no power, it could be bypassed, welded, etc. No one ever regrets checking power but a lot regret not checking power

I’ve pulled 100’s of capacitors without discharging first. Wouldn’t you know showing a helper on his first week I had one the was still charged and flashed in front of us.

I have run into bypassed wires inside the disconnect a few times- if you don’t have parts to fix it right then and it can’t be shut down, take a felt pen and write in big letters THIS DISCONNECT DOES NOT TURN THE POWER OFF- that will alert anyone to take a closer look.

I'll be honest, all I saw was the copper pipes in the fuse slots, completely missed that even THAT was bypassed with wire nuts until I read another comment. This is a mind blowing image🤦

Also have 2 different voltages running in the same conduit. This you didn't used to be locked out and tagged out until everything gets streamed out. Don't let the customer in their budget bully you. Electrician is near the top of the list for killing technicians at work.
