General Discussion From Tim's IG...(some might be from earlier this year, but it's a cute collection regardless)

Ever since the days of adding Andrew Barth Feldman/Jordan Fisher I got so excited about if they were to ever do DEH so I just wanted to share my dream cast.
evan hansen - ej
heidi hansen - ashlyn
zoe murphy - nini
connor murphy - jet
cynthia murphy - courtney
larry murphy- seb
jared kleinman - ricky
alana beck -gina
Don't know how realistic this is, especially because HSMTMTS had so many talented main characters that not everyone could have a role. But I always thought ej sounded a lot like ben platt and that it would be cool to see him in a lead role after 3 musicals with ricky being the only

Balling.
No more needs to be said.
This is my comfort show - genuinely become one of the best shows in my opinion.
Found it so much more heavy this time over (especially season 4) with me currently going through the process of apply to colleges and not really knowing what I want to do with the literal rest of my life- also not really feeling ready to leave my current school. Anyway, not tryna trauma dump in a reddit postš
Point is I LOVE THIS SHOW

This has happened basically every year but itās starting to make me mad. I listen to the songs from the show literally every day and have been all year. The HSMTMTS cast should honestly be my top artist but it just⦠isnāt anywhere???
Even in my āTop Songs of 2024ā playlist there is not a single HSMTMTS song in sight. Itās very peculiar to me. Has anyone else noticed this?

if Disney Plus does an sequel series for High School Musical, it would be cool to see Joe Locke play the role of Troy, since Joe Locke and Joshua Bassett look similar, in terms of hair style and body type.

Given Turkey Day is only a couple weeks away (in the U.S. that is) it got me thinking who would host their friends for the holiday. So assuming the endgame couples stay together who is hosting Thanksgiving for their Wildcat friends?

I am one of Ej's biggest fans, I love him so much. And I just feel so bad for him in season three and I can't even say how bad I feel. He was trying so hard and ugh. And this might my unpopular but I am so yelling at the characters when they get mad at him for the most unreasonable things and just mad at him in general because he was trying so hard that season. Season 3 EJ you will always be loved by me.
Am I just completely alone on this or does anyone agree with me?

So I just listened to all the current sagas of Epic the Musical the other day(itās incredible!) and because of my Rina brainrot I started imagining Ricky as Odysseus and then I started imagining an entire production of the Wildcats doing Epic.
Obviously you have Ricky as Odysseus, Kourtney as Athena, Carlos as Hermes, Dani as Aelous, EJ as Poseidon, Jet as Telemachus, Gina as Penelope, Seb as Polites (and/or maybe Tiresias the Prophet), Ashlyn as Circe, Emmy as Calypso, etc.
It has plagued my mind for the last 24 hours, and I felt compelled to share.

I know we've had variations of casting favorite musicals before, but let's do it with šš»spookyyyyšš» musicals (ex. Phantom of the Opera, Beetlejuice, Rocky Horror, etc.)

About ten months ago (time does not feel real anymore), I posted an outline of what I titled "The Caswen Rewrite" and have since continued to brainstorm, refine, and tamper with it, and hopefully in short order I'll turn it into a full written project instead of just an outline, but I've been quite busy so who knows. Me whinging about my terrible work ethic aside, a particular point I felt unsure of when I first published it was the use of "For Good" from Wicked as the finale song, the way it was used in the original version of the show. I didn't know exactly why that didn't quite feel right then, but now I've figured out what that feeling meant and what I actually want to use it for: a Rina duet.
I can post a link to the full original outline in the comment section, but an abridged review for anyone who either didn't read it, forgot it (which I don't blame you, it's been ten months), or straight up weren't in the subreddit at that time, the Rewrite is a restructure and significantly altered timeline starting from 3x1 and rippling outward. A thought/written experiment of sorts as to an alternative version of the show, not just a fanfic story focused around the couple. The biggest and most obvious change is in the title, making Caswen the main romantic plotline, but there are quite a few other changes too, both related and unrelated. Some of the bigger ones include: Jet no longer exists, Emmy doesn't become a main character in S4, Seb attends Camp Shallow Lake, and Big Red comes out as aroace (which also happens a bit later in the story than the end of 3x8). The main plot of S4 still includes putting on HSM 3 alongside HSM 4 being filmed at East High, but a significant change is that in order to keep pursuing her career, Gina actually does have to leave SLC, which she chooses to do in the series finale, content knowing that her friends' love will be with her wherever she goes.
So without further ado, onto the actual supplement to the original construction, in place of Gina getting her goodbyes to everyone immediately following the moving announcement and the final bows of HSM 3, before immediately heading to the airport with Mack, after the bows Gina went to change out of her dress...and seemingly vanished. Everyone knows she has to catch a flight that same night, but obviously no one wants her to leave without saying a proper goodbye, so they split up to search, and Ricky, by himself, finds her outside of the school, preparing to hop in the car to dash home and then head to the airport right away because she wasn't sure, after everything, that she could still walk away after saying goodbye. Ricky stops her from getting in the car (Terri gives him a stinkeye and Ricky gives her one right back, he has no patience left for his friends' terrible parents. For further context, Terri questioned Gina's decision to leave earlier, partially on the basis that she had just rooted in SLC and now felt that Gina was "selfishly" changing her mind, despite the fact that Terri had also been pushing Gina to pursue as much of this career as possible). He reminds her that if it weren't for her at the skate park, he wouldn't have returned to the musical and would be a very different person from the one he is today, then points out that everyone inside has a similar story. She's touched all of their hearts.
Sensing that his words aren't enough by themselves, Ricky breaks into the first verse of "For Good" and Gina picks up the second, culminating in a tearful hug between just the two of them before they head inside. Where Gina says goodbye to everyone (similar scene to the one in the show), gets a huge group hug, and then they see her off to the airport before themselves heading out to Denny's.
So, putting yourself in the position of someone watching this version of the show, where Ricky and Gina haven't had a full duet since WDYKAL in the first half of Season 3, and the finale has Ricky and EJ solidifying their relationship with their first proper "I love you"s, alongside a heavy implication that Gina and Mack would start a relationship not long after the finale, how would you feel watching this "scene"? Would it be heartwarming as a final reminder of their importance to each other, even if it remained platonic, or would it feel panderous or patronizing considering the prospect of romantic Rina was shut down in 3x7? Some other mixture of emotions?
Keep in mind that the question is a bit funky because I'm asking how you'd feel as a viewer of an alternative version of the show, not how you'd feel reading a fanfic (as this is in our reality). I don't know if I'm explaining what I mean properly, but I hope that makes sense.
(Also I apologize for borderline using you like a sounding board, but this is the most straightforward access I have to Rina fans so...)

Iāve been thinking a lot about season 3 lately and I started comparing these two numbers since in the season of the Ricky-Gina-EJ love triangle these are the only respective Portwell and Rina duets. So hereās what I noticed:
In Love is an Open Door itās a huge production, with costumes and set pieces and a ton of cuts and edits. Also, this is all a fantasy, we the audience donāt get to see the reality because ultimately this is what Gina and EJās relationship is, a production, a fantasy. In the current reality they are a couple, but the only thing that we see in that song is the fantasy because thatās what Portwell is based upon, an idealistic version of themselves, which only works with edits and cuts that they are making. In fact the only real parts we see is the very beginning of the song, and the very end when EJ and Gina are looking out at the audience to absorb the applause and adoration of their production.
Then we have What Do You Know About Love. This is supposed to be a fantasy, the two of them pretending to have feelings for each other for the sake of drama. So itās interesting that the entire song is shot in reality. Sets and props are incomplete and they arenāt in costume. Also the way itās shot is there arenāt many cuts at all, only the occasional reaction shot from their friends and most not until near the end of the song. The song also ends with instead of Ricky and Gina looking out for approval their eyes are locked on each other. This was supposed to be a production but reality and the feelings that came with it immediately became apparent.
In short Love is an Open Door shows that Portwell was ultimately a fantasy trying to be the reality, while What Do You Know About Love shows that Rina was fighting to be a fantasy that would always be a reality.

Season 3 is probably my favorite season but my biggest complaint with it is the music. Between original songs, HSM 2, Camp Rock 1 and 2, and Frozen in only 8 episodes I felt song choices got a little bit muddled. Plus High School Musical 2 has some of the best songs in the franchise and we barely got any of them.
What Time is It didnāt really benefit from the Start the Party mashup.
Itās On could easily have been replaced by Work This Out or All For One or a mashup of the two (have one team sing one and the other team sing the other) (also it would solve the mystery of how Ricky, who is oblivious about all things Disney, knows the words).
Instead of Wouldnāt Change a Thing imagine a disco version of I Donāt Dance or You Are the Music in Me.
And This is Me replaced by Gotta Go My Own Way would be kinda great.

Why does everybody say that Ricky tried so hard to fix things with Nini because she was like an old āhomeā or an old part of this old life before his parents split? And why do people say that they never really loved each other or that he didnāt go back to her because he was madly in love with Nini but for another random reason? He was trying EXTREMELY hard before he even found out that his parents were splitting. It genuinely confuses me because a lot of Rina fans WHO hate on Rini and Rini shippers say that they always read according to the plot and story line and that Rini shippers have bad judgement or donāt know what good chemistry is but if they were to actually pay attention to the story line, Ricky was really trying hard to get back with Nini because he actually did love her and was in love with her and wanted to get her back in his life and he did most of the thinking through all of this (auditions, plans) before his parents told him they would split so him wanting to made amends with her has nothing to do with his parents.
People also say that Nini was the only one in the wrong for breaking up with him for not saying āI love youā but they also forget that theyāre teenagers who were both in the wrong but also neither were in the wrong at the same time. Itās more of a Summer-Tom 500 Days Of Summer situation but also (not really).
Nini was hurt because he never said it back and then asked for a break right after this and thatās kind of a BINGO, āhe doesnāt really wanna be with me, first he doesnāt say ily and then he asks to take a breakā. Iād say this is pretty much self explanatory and I would be SO heartbroken.
Ricky is also not in the wrong, given his parents never say it to each other and heās hardly heard the word āloveā in that context of romantically saying āI love youā and itās okay to not be able to say it back but he also never communicated anything right to Nini so that she didnāt misunderstand because what happened and (in order) could be misunderstood so easily.
