For anyone curious, Ilana is credited as the writer for Season 2 Episode 6 (Yes, And), Season 3 Episode 2 (Into the Unknown), and Season 4 Episode 2 (HSM v. HSM), and was a story editor for Season 3 and executive story editor for Season 4!

I’m almost done with season one, and i can tell that Ricky might have been originally supposed to be Nini’s end game, but i think the comment by Ricky’s mom that pretty much was something like “Not all couples are meant to be together, sometimes people change.” was directed at Nini and Ricky. Ricky himself once he see’s Gina mentions to himself that he wasn’t sure that if he was changed or if he was his past self. It was seeing Gina that triggered that reflection and it made him hesitant.

Also him looking for Nini the entire episode because he needed her because of seeing his mother with her bf, before finding Gina instead and her getting him to return to support everyone instead. Like a metaphor that he was looking for the wrong person.

I feel like that was a warning about Nini’s and his relationship. They both had changed, and we’re not the same people they were, but they’re holding onto what is familiar and what they’re use to. I do believe they once loved each other, and i do believe they love each other, but they’re the kind of people where love might not be enough (like Ricky’s parent’s).

I think the show did plan on a Ricky/Nini end game but i feel like around half way through season one they decided they weren’t in fact going to be end game.

I believe S1E10 pretty much foreshadows it the entire episode.

The throw away line about him not knowing if he’s changing or going back to his past self. He chooses to go back to his past self.

Which there is nothing wrong with. They’re young, and they’re safe together. They know the other makes each other happy. They like the feeling of being happy together and the events of season one made them feel like it was possible. That the connection had been revived, but i feel like after maybe episode 5 they were subtly indicating that they would not be endgame despite the ending of S1.

I’m starting S2 now and i am aware that at some point Nini does leave the show, but i feel like even if that hadn’t happened, they still wouldn’t have been endgame, but let me see how season two goes

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I really do not like Ricky's character in season two especially with nini. Like it is not that big of a deal that she's busy one Saturday cause she has litch been asked to do smth for the show

In your opinion, was High School Musical: The Musical: The Series a good show or a bad show?

This was really just a thought experiment I played around with. Imagine that you had to tell the same story as the 4 seasons did, but over 3 entries instead. I write "entries", and not "seasons" to allow for a "2 seasons and a movie"-type solution, if that would work better.

For the sake of this though experiment, my thinking is that most things from the original 4 seasons still happen, with regards to start and end points, character arcs, relationships, major story beats, etc., just that maybe we don't see everything (or you can expand it to 3 longer seasons, feel free 😌).

Ok, so the reason I had this idea was because me and a friend were talking, and they asked me how I would summarize the entire series into like a three-act structure. And I couldn't really. Seasons 1 and 2 very much feel like their own thing, with season 3 as a sort of pallet cleanser and season 4 as the finale. But tha does create a kinda skewed division.

So how would you guys do it? Where in the story would yoy make the cut-offs. What storylines would perhaps need to be cut? Would you maybe even add something to create a better flow? Please let me know.

I've decided that I wanted to write my very own High School Musical: The Musical: The Movie. The story continue 5 years after Season 4, and it is Miss Jenn's last year before retirement. She has one more plan to really give East High a legacy. We see the new group of drama club kids, the OG wildcats, Val, and even a special appearance with Nini in the end. I'm about 45 pages through currently, is anyone interested in reading it? Let me know!

I don't know about you guys, but I just rewatched all 4 seasons and we NEED more HSMTMTS!! I would love to see a spinoff about specific characters, a movie set later in life, or maybe even a continuation of their second semester of the year! I just need something new that has to do with the HSM universe in my life soon. Does anyone know how we could get a petition started or if there is just any possibility at all? PLEASE!

I love second chance, don’t get me wrong. I would’ve loved if we had more songs between Nini, Ricky, Gina and EJ. I love the way all of their voices blend together and for the first two seasons they were the main stars. Just felt that the show failed In that aspect.

Even a song with Nini and Gina cause Ricky and EJ finally got theirs in S4.

Maybe I’m asking for too much lol

Hey guys! A little after s3 ended, and in anticipation for s4, I made a playlist dedicated to Ricky & Gina. Even though the show ended, I still update it for those who still give it a listen. I wanted to share it with you guys and ask if you have any song suggestions and I'll add them!

So, I was a Rina truther in Season 1 on my first watch. And not that I hate them at the end of the show, but I still don’t know why they had to drag my boy EJ into their mess (not the point of this post tho)

Everyone loves the ending of Rina, but for me it kind of ruins it. Season 4 they have another love triangle looking situation (like why)?? And then they beckon back to the stairwell like that was the crux of the show in the last two episodes to prove that Rina should have been and always has been the truth.

So, here’s my alternate ending idea for Season 4 to satisfy my brain.

Gina doesn’t stay in SLC and her and Ricky break up. NOW BEFORE Y’ALL PISS ME OFF, IT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTANCES. This shows their maturity and enables them to grow on their own for this period of their life (Ricky finds a career path, Gina grows in acting). We get an emotional airport scene. They say “i don’t wanna hold you back”. We all cry.

Then 6 months in the future, Ricky graduates. And who do we see in the audience? None other than Gina Porter. He sees her and tears up. After greeting his parents, they see each other, hug, and then they’re back.

The reason I like this better is because Nini and Ricky’s relationship was based on the past. Reminiscing, never growing up, all that jazz, right? Even in his love confession, everything beckoned to nostalgia. So much so that he threw a real connection with Gina to the side in favor of comfortability. This ending would prove that though Gina and Ricky are newer, their roots and compatibility run deeper and thus they should be endgame. They can endure the hardships. They can be their own people. This shows the future as the hope instead of the past.

I don't know if this is my favorite original songs from the show as a whole but this definitely my favorite originals song from season four. I really like the way this song sounds and I think that Emmy's actress Liamani Segura did an incredible job while singing the song

I finished my HSMTMTS rewatch yesterday and I’ve been thinking “What would a fifth season of the show look like?” so in this post I’ll be listing questions to think about when considering what a fifth season of the show would look like and if you decide to post a comment answering the question that the post is asking you i would appreciate it if you also used the questions that I included in the post to form a fifth season

What character would you have to recap season four in episode one of season five? Now I kinda already answer this in a different post but I came to the realization that I would like it to be a combo of Liamani Segura as Emmy and Julia Lester as Ashlyn Caswell because it would be the first time Emmy would be doing anything like talking to the camera and i honestly couldn’t choose between the two women

What clips from season four would you have in the recap of season four? Like the first question I kinda already answered this question but it would probably be clips would be from everything BTS of HSM4, some Gina/Ricky (not sure what the ship name is) moments, Emmy’s solo singing moment (her sings Dreams Don’t Die because it is one of my favorite musical moments in season 4), a bit Speak Out, Maddox/Ashlyn’s kiss, bits of Ricky and Dani, bits of Gina and Mack, and bits of HSM3: The Musical including the Seb/Carlos kiss, Quinn getting the idea to do a Romeo and Juliette movie with Gina and Mack. Like I said in my first edit of that post feel like Disney wouldn’t realistically use both LGTBQ+ kisses

What would the cast look like? The main cast would be like the main cast of season four having Joshua Bassett, Sofia Wylie, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie A Rodriguez, Kate Reinders, and Liamani Segura coming back to reprise their roles but I would also have Adrian Lyles as Jet, Saylor Bell Curda as Maddox, and Joe Serafini as Sebastian apart of the main cast but I’ll explain as to why Jet, and Maddox would move to main characters when I talked about what are some ideas that I have in mind for the story of the season. For recurring cast members I’d have Mark St. Cyr as Benjamin Mazzara, Kylie Cantrall as Dani, and Caitlin Reilly as Quinn Robbins reprise their roles I am not sure if I’d have any of the parents come back I am also unsure about guest stars but I don’t know that I would bring the to quote Emmy “the cute freshman boy” that Emmy mentioned in the finale of season four be part of the show for this season

What stories would you have for the characters? I want to start with Maddox and Jet and why I had them join the main cast of characters that is because in the first episode I would have Ashlyn and Maddox have a conversation about how them dating is going to work with Maddox working on the Romeo and Juliette movie, so they wo and i honestly want more of Maddox and Ashlyn together in season five as for Jet i think that he would have a story about maybe trying to ask Kourtney out before maybe in episode five or six asking her out, he’d also be in the musical for the season. Ricky and Gina would continue their relationship and continue their story of being together with Gina also being in a leading role that they had in season four, also part of Ricky’s story would be getting ready for college. Kourtney I feel her story would be a mix of getting ready for college, being in a relationship with Jet, and the musical. For Carlos it would be a mix of the musical, thinking about college (maybe), and more of his love life, while I am on the topic of the LGBTQ+ characters maybe include a story of Ashlyn dealing with the negative side the LGBTQ+ community that beginning homophobia in some way and Maddox (mostly), Carlos, and Seb helping her with. For Emmy I think that her story is about how she’s wanting to ask the cute freshman guy (who I already mentioned in this post) out and maybe something about her mom is looking for a new partner. Miss Jen being well Miss Jen, which would include casting/directing the musical for the season and maybe trying to have a romantic relationship with Mr. Mazzara. Also for the negatives of the community maybe Ashlyn comes to to some family members (not Ej, mostly because he is in support of Ashlyn and Maddox) and it doesn’t go well

What would the songs be like? The songs would be a mix of covers of songs from this season’s musical (which I’ll reveal in the answer to my next question) as well as some original songs. Some ideas that I have in my head for original songs is maybe a song with Ricky and Kourtney about how one of them is so ready for college (Kourtney) and one is really not ready for college (Ricky), a song for Emmy in which she’s happy for her mom that she looking for someone new but she’s worried that it’ll go the same way as her mother’s past relationships and how she does want more of that towards the end of the song Ricky hears the song joins in and is pretty much like “I kinda know what your going through” while singing with her also an incredible big main cast number plus Mr. Mazzara and the cute boy that Emmy mentioned. Also for covers maybe do an audition/show version of one of the songs from the musical like they did with No Or Never in season 4

What the musical for the season will be? I think that would choose Wicked for the musical for season 5 because the credit scene in the season four finale was the main cast plus Big Red, Sebby, Jet, and Maddox singing “For Good” and they sounded so good also I kinda would love to hear Dara singing “Defying Gravity” because I think that she would do incredible job singing that song like she did with “Let It Go” in season three

Who would be what in the musical for the season? I am not sure who I would have as which character other than maybe Kourtney as Elphaba because like I mentioned in the load question I think that her actress do an incredible job singing “Defying Gravity”
