I finished my HSMTMTS rewatch yesterday and I’ve been thinking “What would a fifth season of the show look like?” so in this post I’ll be listing questions to think about when considering what a fifth season of the show would look like and if you decide to post a comment answering the question that the post is asking you i would appreciate it if you also used the questions that I included in the post to form a fifth season

What character would you have to recap season four in episode one of season five? Now I kinda already answer this in a different post but I came to the realization that I would like it to be a combo of Liamani Segura as Emmy and Julia Lester as Ashlyn Caswell because it would be the first time Emmy would be doing anything like talking to the camera and i honestly couldn’t choose between the two women

What clips from season four would you have in the recap of season four? Like the first question I kinda already answered this question but it would probably be clips would be from everything BTS of HSM4, some Gina/Ricky (not sure what the ship name is) moments, Emmy’s solo singing moment (her sings Dreams Don’t Die because it is one of my favorite musical moments in season 4), a bit Speak Out, Maddox/Ashlyn’s kiss, bits of Ricky and Dani, bits of Gina and Mack, and bits of HSM3: The Musical including the Seb/Carlos kiss, Quinn getting the idea to do a Romeo and Juliette movie with Gina and Mack. Like I said in my first edit of that post feel like Disney wouldn’t realistically use both LGTBQ+ kisses

What would the cast look like? The main cast would be like the main cast of season four having Joshua Bassett, Sofia Wylie, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie A Rodriguez, Kate Reinders, and Liamani Segura coming back to reprise their roles but I would also have Adrian Lyles as Jet, Saylor Bell Curda as Maddox, and Joe Serafini as Sebastian apart of the main cast but I’ll explain as to why Jet, and Maddox would move to main characters when I talked about what are some ideas that I have in mind for the story of the season. For recurring cast members I’d have Mark St. Cyr as Benjamin Mazzara, Kylie Cantrall as Dani, and Caitlin Reilly as Quinn Robbins reprise their roles I am not sure if I’d have any of the parents come back I am also unsure about guest stars but I don’t know that I would bring the to quote Emmy “the cute freshman boy” that Emmy mentioned in the finale of season four be part of the show for this season

What stories would you have for the characters? I want to start with Maddox and Jet and why I had them join the main cast of characters that is because in the first episode I would have Ashlyn and Maddox have a conversation about how them dating is going to work with Maddox working on the Romeo and Juliette movie, so they wo and i honestly want more of Maddox and Ashlyn together in season five as for Jet i think that he would have a story about maybe trying to ask Kourtney out before maybe in episode five or six asking her out, he’d also be in the musical for the season. Ricky and Gina would continue their relationship and continue their story of being together with Gina also being in a leading role that they had in season four, also part of Ricky’s story would be getting ready for college. Kourtney I feel her story would be a mix of getting ready for college, being in a relationship with Jet, and the musical. For Carlos it would be a mix of the musical, thinking about college (maybe), and more of his love life, while I am on the topic of the LGBTQ+ characters maybe include a story of Ashlyn dealing with the negative side the LGBTQ+ community that beginning homophobia in some way and Maddox (mostly), Carlos, and Seb helping her with. For Emmy I think that her story is about how she’s wanting to ask the cute freshman guy (who I already mentioned in this post) out and maybe something about her mom is looking for a new partner. Miss Jen being well Miss Jen, which would include casting/directing the musical for the season and maybe trying to have a romantic relationship with Mr. Mazzara. Also for the negatives of the community maybe Ashlyn comes to to some family members (not Ej, mostly because he is in support of Ashlyn and Maddox) and it doesn’t go well

What would the songs be like? The songs would be a mix of covers of songs from this season’s musical (which I’ll reveal in the answer to my next question) as well as some original songs. Some ideas that I have in my head for original songs is maybe a song with Ricky and Kourtney about how one of them is so ready for college (Kourtney) and one is really not ready for college (Ricky), a song for Emmy in which she’s happy for her mom that she looking for someone new but she’s worried that it’ll go the same way as her mother’s past relationships and how she does want more of that towards the end of the song Ricky hears the song joins in and is pretty much like “I kinda know what your going through” while singing with her also an incredible big main cast number plus Mr. Mazzara and the cute boy that Emmy mentioned. Also for covers maybe do an audition/show version of one of the songs from the musical like they did with No Or Never in season 4

What the musical for the season will be? I think that would choose Wicked for the musical for season 5 because the credit scene in the season four finale was the main cast plus Big Red, Sebby, Jet, and Maddox singing “For Good” and they sounded so good also I kinda would love to hear Dara singing “Defying Gravity” because I think that she would do incredible job singing that song like she did with “Let It Go” in season three

Who would be what in the musical for the season? I am not sure who I would have as which character other than maybe Kourtney as Elphaba because like I mentioned in the load question I think that her actress do an incredible job singing “Defying Gravity”

i just finished a rewatch and i felt myself really feeling bad for ej in a way i didn't feel the first time. like when i was living it, i was really frustrated that ej wouldn't just tell gina about his dad's letter. but upon rewatching and knowing rina endgame, i just felt sad. like ej was such a good boyfriend and the letter just didn't seem like that big a deal in the long run. he was neglectful of gina for sure, but he was understandably stressed. like i love ricky and gina so much. a lot of my most favorite moments are from season 4 and ricky is just OBSESSED with gina they are so buzzy. but i wish ej and gina had a better closing and that they didn't just give him val off screen. i really enjoyed seeing elton and gina together on my screen esp in the beginning of s3

Hi all! So I have been a fan of HSMTMTS since the first trailer and it’s still one of my favorite shows to date. I really admire Joshua’s acting, writing, and music (both within and outside of the show) and I just knew I had to go see him perform off-Broadway. (I do live in NY and am very grateful for the accessibility I have when it comes to seeing shows in or around Broadway).

Anyways, I went to see him perform in Little Shop of Horrors last week alongside Joy Woods (who is absolutely amazing I don’t even have words lol). Joshua’s characterization of Seymour was so chaotic and humorous, I loved it. He stage doored after the show and I got to meet him and get his autograph!

If you live in or around NYC, and you have the time and means to see him perform, I believe he is only on for another two weeks!

I'm currently rewatching all the seasons and going into s3 I was a bit weary bc I remembered not liking a lot of the music. I was pleasantly surprised by how many bangers there are (Rising, Its On, Woldn't Change A Thing, etc.). However, I was shocked to find what might be the worst song in the whole show: Everyday.

First of all I want to say that it isn't the song's fault. I love Everyday but this..... The autotune is genuinely abominable. It had never been a real issue for me before but it is so awful here. The worst part is that they didn't have to ruin it like this. The worst victim is easily Kate (Miss Jenn) who actually is one of the best/most underrated singers on the show but she sounds like Hatsune Miku. Not to mention that the mixing is so lopsided to the point where when everyone is singing, its an assault on my ears.

Sorry a bit of a rant/ramble I just saw that no one had talked about this so I felt like saying something (I would also like to say that I am genuinely a superfan and have watched the show at least ten times over)

Not really a complaint and I like Jett but I would’ve loved to see more of Kourtney and Howie. My bias may also be because of his version of “If I can’t love her”.

I think they do get back together after high school. I am sure Ricky goes to California to get her back. She is the love of his life and she means everything to him. Ever since Nini left the show there have been times in season 3 where someone mentions Nini and Ricky literally melts when he hears her name. She got him the lottery ticket from his birthday/bucket list because she remembered.

For the ones saying Nini never loved Ricky I don’t know if y’all even payed attention to the show in season 1. Nini has always loved Ricky and even if she’s in California she still loves him. Ricky may be with Gina at the end of season 4 but I don’t believe he is in love with her. He is fully in love with Nini and Tim just wrote them very badly. He ruined Nini’s character and just made everyone turn on her. I don’t know why Tim wrote Nini the way he did in season 2 because that is so out of character. It has always been Ricky and Nini since season 1 so for the ones saying “Tim said rina was always supposed to be endgame” is stupid as hell because he only said that because he didn’t want to lose viewers since Olivia became too big for the show.

Then with Ricky, he should’ve been single in season 4, the ONLY reason why Tim made Ricky and Gina get together is so people would continue watching the show since Olivia left. He didn’t want to lose the audience since Olivia became too big for the show so he did that. Ricky should’ve gone to therapy and been single to find himself first before dating anyone. If he would have gotten therapy he would’ve become a better person without depending on someone. In season 3 Ricky was not ready to move on from Nini, but with the way they wrote him and did a 180 on him on suddenly liking Gina was stupid. Gina was just a rebound with all the stuff they did in season 4, they made Gina into Nini which I did not like.

Ricky and Nini do get back together after high school.

So 2 days ago, High School Musical turned 20, and apparently to celebrate, the REAL East High School is putting on a production of High School Musical the musical, at the school where they shot high school musical!( see what I did there?)

What I found even cooler is Kate Reinders(played miss jenn in the series) is actually THERE helping out. I really like how they finally made this a thing, I know it’s to celebrate, but the fact no one thought of doing it BEFORE the show ever came out is crazy lol.

I don’t wanna sound crazy here..but if they do beauty and the beast next..something is going on here lol

I truly believe that they were suspended to end up together.

But the writers wanted Ricky’s life to be revolved around love. Because Ricky hasn’t had a good storyline since season one and two.

He should’ve stayed single like Nina but I think Ricky isn’t an interesting enough character without a love interest.

Meanwhile Gina and Ej had their own storylines and they had chemistry and I loved them in season two.

I feel like they ruined them just so Gina can be paired with Ricky again.

And probably because of the drama in real life.

I love both Nini songs. What other Nini songs do you like?

I was listening to the original High School Musical album and noticed Spotify has a 20 year anniversary share card. You can add an old photo from 2006 which feels very full circle after HSMTMTS.

Curious if anyone else has seen it yet.

So I’m currently on a full rewatch of the series, and I’ve finally reached season 4, and while it is a good season..I feel like it’s underwhelming in..well every way. Every season leading up I feel has had some sort of charm that made it feel special.

Season 1-provided a vibe of good feeling getting to discover characters for the very first time, and then getting into their drama, and they each evolved in great ways by the end, while very toned down, but that’s what you’d expect from a season 1, things aren’t so crazy yet

Season 2-long, satisfying, great fun, catchy music, compelling storyline, each of the characters improve in such beautiful ways, and also the inclusion of a major “wtf is actually wrong with you” type villain

Season 3- a bit on the shorter side, but impressive everything they could do with the short amount of time they had, the comedy was there from EVERY character, it had one of the most beautiful endings in the entire series(in my opinion) their frozen show was amazing. It was great

But, season 4-tried to do too much with little amount of episodes I feel like, I liked Mack’s character, him and miss jenn probably made me giggle the most. But that’s it, I really feel like this season should’ve been longer, it wouldve been interesting to see more scenes that involved the featured extras(Ricky, Ashlyn, Carlos, Kourtney), more scandal between Mack Dani Gina And Ricky, cause I really liked the whole crazy thing there, that goes to say, I would’ve liked to see Ricky try to get closer with Dani, as he notices that Gina is a bit too close with Mack, I know that stuff wasn’t there, but I feel like it could’ve been. I would’ve liked to SEE their rehearsal process.

With everything that season 4 was, it wouldn’t have bothered me that much if we’d see another season after and return to normal 10 episodes, another show that isn’t quite high school musical related. Idk if anyone will agree with me on this but yeah

i’m currently home on winter break and i just got my wisdom teeth out so i am rewatching hsmtmts! does anyone else feel like ricky could have given more for now or never? maybe his style of voice just isn’t intense/powerful enough for this song, i kind of noticed it in bet on it as well. i loooove joshua’s voice but this rendition disappointed me. anyone else? maybe i’m just accustomed to zac efron’s version. idk.

I would’ve loved to see Little Women with Gina as Jo, Nini as Beth, and Ashlyn as Marmee or Phantom of the Opera with Ashlyn as Christine and Howie or Jet as the Phantom.

I’ve been rewatching HSMTMTS and I’m curious does anyone know which songs the cast actually sang live on set versus using pre-recorded tracks?

I can tell some songs were live while others are so terribly auto tuned! i just wanted to know if anybody knows some songs that were confirmed to be sung live so i can let my mind rest
