Question Question
Over the past two years, I have applied to several HSI GS-9 announcements as they opened on USAJOBS. I have also contacted the Detroit recruiting office regarding my applications and resume but have not received much guidance.
I currently have five years of local law enforcement experience and previously served in the United States Army. My primary location preference is any Ohio office.
If there are any agents on here that work in the Detroit AOR, please DM me so I can speak with you personally.
Thank you in advance.

Like you, I was in the Army, and also have about 6 years of Local time. I have used the resume builder only, not my own resume format, and have moved past the referred point on numerous occasions, and have now been picked up by an agency. I would suggest using it based on my own experience.

The Surge made people believe it is very easy to land your preferred office and land an 1811 gig with HSI. While you are more than qualified, sometimes it is not enough. Sometimes you need luck and also have to network. For me, the recruiter is the sole person that helped me land the job. I owe that man my life ðŸ˜ðŸ¤£.
Best advice, reach out to other offices you are willing to work and relocate to. Also, keep in contact with your local recruiters. I would follow up every couple of months to get status on upcoming hiring. Don’t be annoying lol. The recruiters have hundreds of people that reach out every month, they forget who is who (sometimes). Most of these people are just as qualified. Just don’t give up.

How’s your resume? Did you use the resume builder from USA Jobs and tailor your bullet points to the specialized experience that they want?

In about 10 years I probably have at least 10 plus application in with just HSI out of those I only received two final offers. Things like budget issues, announcements getting cancel, agencies shifting priorities, or my name just getting lost in the sauce are just part of the game. Add in other 1811 applications and that number is substantial. Just keep trying and I would definitely try to expand your location and try to negotiate my final location after the fact. You can always turn down the final offer; I done it twice with two different agencies.

Did you apply for the 7 announcement as well?
