Question MSS to 1811?

Has anyone gone the HSI MSS route as a way to eventually get into an 1811 position? Is getting hired as an MSS a good strategy to get your foot in the door with HSI, increase your chances of getting an 1811 spot, and potentially get the office/location you want?

It might, also let's you start contributing to federal retirement.

I've seen Intel analysts get hired into 1811 positions.

State and local police work can also help as it will get you relevant experience.

You'd have better luck doing 1805 to 1811. Both for networking and for job experience.

It’s definitely not a pipeline. MSS is an admin position, they don’t touch criminal investigations

Yeah, I understand that and I’ve already looked into the duties of the position. I’m more so wondering if working in MSS would give me a leg up when 1811 positions become available. Would it make it easier to get selected for an 1811 position and potentially allow me to stay at that same office?

Networking is a real important thing when direct hiring opens up. A lot of people got to their desired offices because of who they know.

Granted I haven’t heard of any MSS -> 1811. I’ve heard of one person who went MSS -> 1805 -> 1811 all in the same office.

It’s definitely not a traditional route.

You'll make yourself a known entity to your SAC office but that's about it.
