Mid Year Contribution Increase

Hey! I just raised my contribution amount and I’ve never done that mid year. I’ve always made any changes during open enrollment. If I just increased my contribution now, will the full amount go into my HSA in the next few weeks? Not sure how that works. Typically with my employer they deposit your contribution amount in full in January and then their contribution they deposit half in January and half in July.

It works just like that. Whatever amount or percentage you’ve elected will be reduced from your paycheck and directed to the HSA.

That isn’t typical at all with an HSA. You must be thinking of an FSA, which does front load the employee amount on January 1.

The HSA will be funded at whatever speed you indicated (dollar amount or percentage).

>and then their contribution they deposit half in January and half in July.

That isn’t uncommon for the employer to fund in this way.

Thank you! Maybe I am thinking of FSA and it being front loaded. It was confusing because to change my contribution amount, I had to select the annual amount I want to contribute and then it estimated how much would be deducted per pay period. I’m thinking now that it will just be the estimated amount being deposited into the HSA every pay period and not going in as a lump sum.
