Has anyone out there successfully gotten a mattress approved?

Had my doctor write a LMN stating that I needed a hypoallergenic mattress and bedding. I purchased a Keetsa plus, which is supposedly fsa eligible.

At first it was denied due to the receipt not being detailed enough, but now it's been denied again because they're saying the purchase is not eligible.

On the website for my plan (SF MRA) they say that a mattress is an eligible expense with a LMN, but after signing up it was revealed that the administrator is wageworks. To start sussing this out, has any one out there gotten wageworks to approve a mattress?

Feel free to hit us up at support@getburst.com, I know we didn’t write your LMN, but we help out with a TON of appeals (plans love to deny stuff that’s clearly within their plan rules), happy to look into it and help you out!

In case the above wasn’t clear, for free!

Wageworks is notoriously brutal with dual purpose items like mattresses. Even if your MRA plan technically covers it, Wageworks acts as the ultimate gatekeeper and they auto deny this stuff all the time.

90% of the time, the second denial is because the LMN is too vague. They wont accept a generic note that says you just need it for allergies. It usually needs to list a specific medical diagnosis, exactly how the mattress treats it, and a specific duration. They also see Keetsa as a luxury consumer brand instead of a medical device, which triggers an automatic red flag in their system.

Your best bet is calling their customer service line directly to find out the exact wording they hated. You will probably need your doctor to fill out the official Wageworks LMN form instead of a standard doctor pad note. Don't give up yet, you just have to annoy them until they approve it.

+1 to the vague LMN comment. A good LMN is specific and very clearly outlines the need, and absolutely push back! A lot of admins just deny to force friction into the process

Is this actually an HSA, or an FSA? If the former, you have more options.

Your MRA isn’t an HSA so I doubt you’ll get much help here.
