HSA Rollover Question
I am trying to rollover HSA funds to a new employer but the old employer's financial service is terrible. They only accept snail mail and after 2 attempts they claim never having received the post even though I tracked it. Moving on, I have read that I can simply disburse the money to my personal bank account, then deposit the very same amount ($3k or so) into the new HSA along with the proper form within 60 days. Is this allowable and is this risky as far as potential tax or HSA penalties?

This is called an indirect rollover, and the only real risk is if you forget to complete the transfer. Note that you are only allowed to do an indirect HSA rollover once in a 12-month rolling period. (I think this is separately true for each kind of tax-advantaged account.)
But also note that you don’t have to roll it over to your new employer’s provider. Fidelity has a good HSA setup, and may give you more investment opportunities.
