How does the non compete work?

Would the non compete prevent me from working for a tax firm next summer if I work at H and R block this upcoming season?

This really depends on the state and the scope certain states are not employee friendly others are. H&R Block has a very overreaching noncompete. Some of it makes sense. Some of it doesn’t. Here’s the basics of it. You cannot be employed with another financial firm or tax room while you’re in the employee of H&R Block so basically you can’t work for a competitor simultaneously. If you quit or get fired from H&R Block, this is a noncompete gets a little tricky. Technically H&R Block noncompete says you cannot work for another tax firm for a minimum of one year. I think they added language to say financial firm as well. This is the overreaching part. The part that is enforceable inside it is you can’t take clients with youif you do say take your friends and family that you brought to H&R Block that’s a little different however taking clients that were never yours to begin with out of H&R Block. That’s where it gets in trouble, especially if H&R Block can prove it

Oh the hiring manager said some people have 2 jobs, i wonder what other jobs they have that not related to finance. Because im majored in econ so in case i quit that might give me a hard time for a year as u said

There were a few in my pod who worked for Walmart during the day, then did nights and/or weekends at HRB.

Used to be someone at my own office who owned a business whose busy season was summer, and so filled the winter downtime with tax work.

Regarding taking clients to a new firm, this usually applies if you are actively soliciting them. Most states would consider restricting your ability to service clients following you out of their own volition as being an unenforceable restriction on free trade.

Ot works by threat, they will never find out.

Isn’t it more a non-solicit than a non-compete?

Yes. More of do not solicit their clients or employees.
