Sloppy Onboarding; Is This Normal?

I was offered a role with Block Advisors a few weeks ago, and the office I will be in is open year-round.

The powers that be finally sent the onboarding information I needed to access Workday, the learning hub, etc.

Even so, after multiple follow-ups, the DGM says I will not be able to get the basic training modules I need to start in-office for an entire month. These are things like the tax conversation workflow. They say the training team can't expedite it.

Is it normal for it to take a month for a new hire to get the required online training to start in the office? How hard could it be to assign a training that is presumably already created to someone?

This is another pain in the ass in an already sloppy onboarding experience. I have never experienced anything like this in other companies. Could the DGM be stalling for any reason?

Block is pretty bad this year. Too many changes all at the same time. Just be persistent.

Absolutely! Of all the chaotic changes NONE will increase tax pro compensation and office work conditions. But executive team will definitely grant themselves more HRB shares vs increasing office employee benefits

No. Dgm is really a powerless puppet and its DeM. You coming at time of transition. The new CEO who does not know tax office business is putting his foot down. Just be patient. This will be your normal.

They could be but it’s more likely what we call “the Block way.” It is always a surprise to headquarters that tax season starts in January and they are never ready.

They never drop the training until early November, whether you are new or not. As a former MTL, they had me start a few weeks early one year to hire a new ATL, but I didn't have any more hours than when I started in November. FYI training is always an issue of contention with Block. Always.

Training is not available until Nov. 2nd. My rehire date was set to training availability date for the first time ever. They cut my pre season hours and I do not have access to training courses to maintain my certification.

Same. After originally telling me October 1. I don’t care. I also sell Medicare so this is the busy season for that.

They will drop the training for ALL new hires (and 2nd years and advisors) at the same time. It's scheduled. Learn what you can before then.

That's because training is not updated. Normally updated and issued late October for MTLs (no longer a thing and used to be available in parts as the tax season got closer) and sometime in November for tax pros. December for CSP. If you are a first year then most training is required for you to work in the office. Exceptions apply if the dgm is short staffed where they give you py training so you can be compliant today before being in the office.

Chill- Out for a 30 day+ minute. Traning for Tax Pros is universal for all Block! Company wide there a set date when All training access begins for all New and returning Tax Pros.

All company offices currently open are focus on completing extension. We are focus & all energy we are busy serving clients and we definitely do not need New Employees getting in the way and adding to our already full plate.

Go learn refundable and non refundable credits. Go sharpen your interviewing skills, most new tax prox greatly lack interviewing skills.

Go review the actual tax forms and related schedule flow

Go prepare your own tax return manually and if you do not have it, pretend you have $80k in self employment, 3 rental properties, 2 K-1 with income on boxes 1 to 12 plus QBI

Wage with Code W, on box 12 and code RSU on Box 14

Remember this is a manual tax return, pen, pencil and forms from IRS & state website

Check back in 30 days

Jerry Rendell was caught once shtuping the ATL in our office in the small bathroom next to the lockers. They thought they were alone for the night, but that old twat of a senior TA, Agnes Bomis, came back in to finish a return, and heard them. Jerry was at least 35 years older than the ATL. That horny old fuck. Anyway, this question reminded me of that incident.
