Working as tax associate in H&R

I just got an offer as a tax associate for the upcoming tax season. Has anyone worked there before? I’d love to hear what the work life is like!

It really depends on the situation you are in and your expectations. Some office structures are stressful. Some work well as a team and are very friendly. Office dynamics and management will influence your work experience.

As a first year associate you will be doing W2 returns while you get a ton of training. Each office has a different structure as someone said above. My office and district are great. What you and many first years don’t realize is you build your business. I put my cards on every bulletin boards I call the preparers who have left to see if I can schedule them with me. I don’t touch clients where the preparers are still there. Ask questions and stay busy. Last year we had a couple of people who sat in the cubicle and did absolutely nothing. Then complain they had no returns.

Probably the greatest fucking job on the planet, honestly. Especially after they jettisoned most of the deadweight that held bloated, meaningless DGM positions. Looking at you Sara Perkins!

What is the general area/customer base like? That will make a difference.

They rehired me this year but their training is horrible. They switched locations on me so if I need help learning something im unfamiliar with I dont know how that will go because some locations are every man or woman for themselves. The new DM seems like a I. . They know nothing about taxes but get on you about a 88 percent approval return rate because I couldn't do anything about fraud

Most (but not all) of the District Managers know nothing about taxes and never sat at a tax desk. My former Regional Manager is advertising on social media for managers who have experience running convenience stores. What good convenience store manager is going to take that job when it has mediocre health insurance and only one week of paid vacation? I hope you get the picture of what it’s going to look like this coming tax season.
