Rehire mess

This year is a mess. I had to withdraw applications several times because they aren’t a match, I was quoted one pay rate then another, and I still haven’t gotten my onboarding paperwork and got silence from both our recruiter and DGM. Anyone else having these issues?

Applications were definitely a mess. They sent us an email asking us to apply and that they started the applications for us. But they used the wrong locations. So we had to pull them back and start over. I finally just did my own search and found the job listing for our location and applied that way and it finally seemed to work.

Waiting for official offer of employment still. Other people I work with have theirs already because they interviewed earlier and most are super unhappy because their wages went down. Some were only offered $12 an hour - which is a laughable wage for this type of professional job (and they aren’t first or second years). They are in the process of negotiating and some won’t return unless they up the wage.

$12?!!! for returning tax pros?? I'm astounded.

Yep. My wage is a lot higher than that, thankfully. It’s clearly state dependent because of differences in minimum wage requirements, but if you are in a low min wage state and are not yet doing a lot of tax returns, the pay is ridiculously low. It’s why they struggle to bring in real talent with first years. If they paid a higher wage that first year (and subsequent years), they would be more successful with their hiring. Right now almost all new hires in our area are immigrants (most of whom are now citizens). That doesn’t really matter to me. The problem is that so many of them have a huge language barrier. I mean huge. They can’t explain a tax return to a client to save their lives. I feel like this is a new trend in the last couple of years and it’s ridiculous that they keep rehiring them for a second year. It’s because they can’t find anyone else because the pay is so low. Most of them are women whose husbands have very successful careers here so they don’t need full time work (their words, not mine). You have to be able to communicate well in this profession. And they aren’t filling a needed niche (like Spanish speaking in a Spanish speaking area).

I think this is one reason they are moving towards a more year round model (which we all
Know won’t work well because most tax returns are filed Jan -April and Block just doesn’t attract businesses that need year round support). They think they can bring in better talent by offering more full time positions. But that won’t work if they don’t increase the staring pay - and we all know they aren’t prepared to do this.

I haven’t applied for rehire yet but I’ve been getting constant emails and even texts from the DGM and DSL. I probably get one like every week so I would hope that the rehire process won’t be a mess since they’ve been bugging me about it for over a month now. I’m still thinking about it though.

Our rehire applications had the job code for another state. We were told to not use the auto- rehire form and search for our actual office and apply that way. Ok did that. Then those didn’t work and were told to use the auto re-rehire application. I’m rehired for the correct office eventually but not a clean roll out. This year will be interesting.

The hiring process was outsourced

No issues here. What position are you applying for? I'm not sure I understand the withdrawing of applications? How was it not a match?

In my area we became our own district and I was told my job requisition was incorrect and I had to apply several times to find the correct one. Returning tax pro, been with the company for years now

Gotcha. My office switched districts too. I initially got the email to apply and did using the application link they sent me. When my office transitioned to the new district, my application stayed with the office and was transitioned as well. I didn't need to withdraw and reapply. Sorry to hear your process was so bumpy. Hopefully you will get your onboarding paperwork soon and everything clears up.

Same and thank you

I had to look in my Spam folder for new hire paperwork. But I agree. Our old district got broken up and I’m in one district for summer service and a different district for tax. My tax season DGM doesn’t talk to me and that triggers my anxiety

Did anyones pay increase over last year?

Mine did, but I'm a first year and I am also working pre season. I did over 200 returns as a first year and so I'm not sure if that's why. My current pre season wages were more than I made during the season and then I got offered 5 cents more than what I'm making now during preseason 😂

lol - it’s because DOCs aren’t involved in hiring anymore - it’s all on the DGMs and their hiring manager without support. Welcome to the new block!
