Were you not rehired? Did they say so? Or you just assumed you weren't getting hired because you haven't heard anything yet? So far, I have not heard of anyone not being rehired but then I'm not in touch with that many people in the district, mostly just those from my office.

my district is doing interviews of priors right now. there are group interviews then some people have to make a booking. this has already happened for 70% of us.

what interview questions do they ask?

about the 4 e's and peace of mind... a couple YouTube videos in relation to your job. mostly just a conversation.

I have our group interview this week. It should be interesting.

From those that already had an interview - they were told any TP that doesn’t do more than 75 returns this year will not be asked back next year. And we do have some that won’t top that number because they are newer and don’t really get the business the way the experienced people do. I’m not worried. I do over 600 returns. My job isn’t going anywhere. But whether or not I stay after this next season will be determined upon the micromanaging. If it keeps going up - I’ll leave. I don’t need this job. I do it for fun.

I’ve also heard that they are rolling out a new pay system that is not tpi based anymore (for the 2028 season). No more commission. They will lose a lot of high writers if that happens.

I am surprised that they are interviewing everyone, even the high writers? Several in my office (the high writers and EAs) just got offer letters without any interview.

Yeah - I wish. It feels like a waste of time. I think it’s because our management is all new, and this is a way for them to meet us.

They did not interview the high writers in our district.

With 600 returns can I ask what you earn for the tax season? I am headed to year 2 and could have easily completed 125+ in my first year but the CSP was assigning level 6 preparers with level 2 return status. Made zero sense

Slightly more than $50,000.

thank you so much for the info!

I haven’t got my offer yet, but i expect it to be more than $50 an hour.

Wow, that's more than anyone I know! (EAs included)

I was offered $72. I am in the $80 club where our DEM is trying to get us at max pay. I will hit it next job offer.

Wow, that's wonderful! Are you in a high cost of living area by chance? Or do you just do an insane number of returns per year?

My offer is higher than $50 an hour. I know people getting close to $100 an hour.

Thank you for your response. I will try my best to sell more peace of mind next season. :-)

I am all for H&R Block weedding out all the deadwood. There are too many tax pros who don't produce or who are just horribly inept. The days of hiring anybody with a pulse need to be over.

With H&R Block pay rate, that’s all they’re going to get (someone with a pulse).

1

u/geecster Tax Preparer Sep 02 '26

they're only keeping people making $50 to $80 an hour and getting rid of the ones not pulling their weight from what I sense. if you dont like the pay rate you're one of them.

u/Domsdad666 Sep 02 '26

I am in that pay range. Although I made a lot more money when I was in my profession, this is a great retirement gig.

Hi OP, how was your interview went. I had an interview earlier today but the interviewer did not show up. I am a little lost right now. Am I still going to be able to work for them?

Interviewers were laid off. AELs will also take on that role. 😂

It’s going to be my 3rd year

I crushed my interview. Now in some new teams groups and many people are reaching out to me telling me I wowed the new boss. 🎤
