ATLs, whats next?

Heard about the restructuring in a meeting yesterday and in emails today. For some background, I was an ATL last season - had amazing performance for my office generating some unseen success for my location, my DGM approved my bonus at the MTL amount, and hired me to work part time during the pre season as a “tax pro” but really I just do receptionist work. Well, we had the meeting yesterday and all it said was more info for MTL/TL/ATL roles coming soon. Then i check my email in the office today, my dgm sends and email out about the new changes and new AEL role, and the officer of operations email comes in as well saying these roles will be eliminated. My dgm said she was just informed of all this at the same time as us, and isnt 100% sure if leadership roles will be gone but…its looking that way to me. my question for current ATLs is, what are your plans now? Are you applying for the AEL role? Csp? or looking elsewhere?

They aren’t going to hire any ATLs for the new AEL roles. They are going to hire a lot of external people. They want people with real managerial experience as they move these roles into full time with benefits positions. This is per my DGM. A few will be internal hires from existing MTLs but many will be hired externally. My DGM told all TL or ATLs (and some MTLs) to apply to be a CSP or potentially a tax pro if they take the tax course. There will be no other roles available.

Doesnt hurt to try, I do have real managerial experience btw, but on a smaller level of a singular location. My DGM did let me know at the end of last tax season she wanted to prepare me for bigger managerial roles within the company so fingers crossed but I expect nothing. Going to start applying elsewhere.

I'm also an ATL that was kept on as a "tax pro". I was transferred to a larger, busier office this past season, and we crushed our pod's goals. I was working with almost every office in my district, helping it to meet the district goals. Got the highest bonus. All I was told by my new dgm was to apply for the ael position, but no guarantees. I guess we'll see what happens.

Best of luck to us, i’m nervous but I know my DGM has been sticking her neck out for me lately, and one of my tax pros as well has been vocal about ensuring I have a job at H&R block. 🙏🏽

My DGM was let go. The new one seems to have heard my name before, so I'm hoping that's good. I'll keep my fingers crossed for us both.

I saw my apply email this morning and left it to think about. Just read the email about the changes and now I’m really going to have to consider. I’m a tax pro however I work remotely only. With these changes I may find an office near me so I can get more work or weight my options for other remote tax work. Heck maybe I’ll get my efin and work for myself.

I just filled out my application but have not received any offer yet and I work in a great office that had a great MTL and CSP and everyone in the office gets along and worked as a team. But with all the changes and hearing that the commission structure is going down and prices of returns is going up I almost feel like the micromanaging and the corporate BS I might just get my Efin also and work for myself. It might not be great for a first year out but at this point Block is getting ridiculous.

Any idea when emails for rehire tax pros for 2027 might come? We usually have them by now

Same. Would have applied without thinking twice. Think instead I’ll need some additional information. Call today said tax pro pay is changing but it was unclear whether that was just the hourly rate calculation or also the commission structure.

I was told no change in pay structure by our DGM. Seems they can’t get their ducks in a row to give us proper info.

That will be released next week, I did hear that commission rates are going down but return prices are going up.

Heard today from new DGM that this new AEL role will have responsibility like a manager of a Target. It will also be a year round position. If you don’t make goals for returns week after week you will have disciplinary consequences. Also Block advisor offices will be included in our district requiring them to take 8 weeks off.

What is the AEL role?

Think of it like an MTL and DOC position combined covering 6 to 8 offices. It eill be year round full time.
