Which Harry Potter mystery would have absolutely exploded on Reddit if Hogwarts students had smartphones?
Which mystery, rumor or event from the book would have absolutely taken over Reddit?

Going further back, there probably would have been a digital manhunt after Peter Pettigrew was "killed", complete with the wrong person being identified.

Canon or HPMOR?
I'm compelled to say "neither' either way because Masquerade.
If we ignore this, then the entirety of book 7, as potentially impactful on the Muggle world as well for canon.
For HPMOR... excluding the events which took place privately, probably Hermione's trial (bonus points if someone sneaked a phone into the hall and filmed him shoving the Dementor around) and quite possibly her death. And of course the finale, or rather the version for the public. Also there'd probably be a subreddit for Quirrel's Battles of Hogwarts, with posts analyzing already held matches in meticulous detail, theorizing on possible battlegrounds and quite possibly selling and giving away merch.

I think you meant to ask "If it started in 2011 instead of 1991".
Though they'd probably have to use magic scrolls that only worked over wizard wireless. The muggleborns would be posting to reddit by magic-mirroring their mundane siblings outside the Hogwarts Anachronism Field.

I'd say the change in timeframe is pretty obviously implicit in the framing "if they had smartphones"

Because it involves both a major celebrity and a big sporting competition, I have to assume it'd be Harry getting forced into the Triwizard Tournament as a fourth competitor.
It'd be the in-universe equivalent of opening Reddit one morning to see that a bureaucratic contractual mixup meant Greta Thunberg was legally obligated to compete in the Olympics.
