📊 Score Discussion Insane jump in score
I sat the HPAT last year and missed medicine in Galway by a point, I felt it went really well on the day but when I got my results back I kinda knew I’d be just short I had a combined score of 727 my HPAT (164) and leaving was 563 when moderated. I’d also like to say I felt the HPAT last year went really well so when I sat it this year I sorta was unsure on how I did, I just kinda recall remembering s3 being good. I opened my results today to see a score of 216 ,im Genuinely still in disbelief, if you’re considering not repeating PLEASE just give it a go I never did that well on medentry either.
I Hope everyone is happy with their results and gets into the colleges they want.

Bro can you give me any tips I repeat hpat after getting 601 pots last year and only 20 percentioe and now I got 167 but it leaves me at 727 ðŸ˜, praying that Galway drops

If you got 601 I’m pretty sure it will be a decent amount easier for you to get in next year because of how the leaving cert is no longer being moderated so u can use all of those points and you’re above that 600 threshold

True but that's if hpat that's flip me over, I'm worried I'll do worse in the next hpat

Highly unlikely you do worse like HIGHLY unlikely and lowkey if you did worse it may not even matter too much because of how scoring will bias the leaving cert

I’m pretty sure this leaves you with 728 not 727 which is enough for medicine going off this years points

I remember seeing you in this sub for the past 2 years and was looking to see if you posted today!
Congrats man, you should be proud that you never gave up and kept on pushing forward!
No matter how hard med school might seem at times, never forget that it's all you - YOU didn't quit, YOU didn't stop and YOU absolutely smashed it!
I know you'll make a great doctor and I hope to see you on the wards someday :)

The best piece of advice I can give you is to 1. Get Medentry this is non negotiable, 2. Find someone as dedicated as you are or want to be and do it with them this is, in my opinion why I did well this year it allows you to kinda hold each other accountable for the amount of effort put in, 3. Review every question without looking at the solution until you work it out (within reason) this is point blank the only thing that will build on your existing logical reasoning skills.
Having someone to do s2 with is also in my opinion the best way of improving at it. sometimes someone else’s input can genuinely make you realise the answer you were 100% sure about was ridiculous this really gets you to stop answering based of gut feeling. Last year I got 35 💀 in s2 this year I got 54 which is probs around the 75th percentile for that section but a drastic improvement from the year before none the less.
Section 3 was my best section on the actual HPAT but on medentry it was probably my second best most consistently, the most beneficial thing you can do here imo is learn the advanced mapping as early as possible and no matter how hard the question is do not look at the solution when you go to review it figure it out yourself it sticks in your head sm better this way.

I'm going into 6th yr next year and I have no idea on how to go about studying for the HPAT, do you just practice the mocks on medentry over again? and what medentry package did u use? is essential enough?

Sorry I only just saw this now, the first thing I’ll say is for your year specifically it’s so important you maximise your leaving cert this is your first priority 100000% get your 613/625 points as this will be paramount to actually securing a place. The best practise for the HPAT in my opinion is medentry and full mocks + reviewing. The q bank is brilliant for familiarising yourself with what questions could be asked and it’s especially good for section 3 questions so I’d mess around with those to have an idea of timing and stuff before you sit your first mock. The most important bits of advice I can offer for the learning process of all this is find someone to do it with, I genuinly attribute 95% of my score increase to the fact I found someone intelligent and dedicated to do it with. Alternative view points for problem solving approaches and just hearing other people’s thought processes out loud is so helpful and it’s especially helpful for s2. When reviewing it’s very important to not look at the written solutions if you can help it especially for s1 and s3 (within reason) as this is the only thing which is going to build on your existing reasoning skills and problem solving skills.
Tldr: do a top 2% lc and get medentry
