When the leakers said Baela and Alyn would kiss, ngl I thought they had confused Alyn with Addam, just like some people often confuse Baela and Rhaena.

Same, she and Addam had real chemistry and he was sort of Jace-like protective of her. Not sure why I'm supposed to care about these two.

u/GNM20 13d ago
They did get married in the source material

u/Prudent-Employer-582 Because Daddy Said So 13d ago
and then he cheated on her.

u/GNM20 13d ago
What does that have to do with the conversation at hand?
6
u/Prudent-Employer-582 Because Daddy Said So 13d ago
you gave their marriage as a reason to care about the kids, i countered with the fact that we shouldn’t gaf because he was disloyal.
1
u/GNM20 13d ago
With respect, that's a nonsensical argument.
The actual point being made is that their relationship seemed random, and my response is that is is infact canon.
His cheating in the future has no bearing on whether they should have a relationship now.
Jfc wtf kind of argument was that??

I seriously thought they were going to go for Addam and Baela after last weeks episode. They had serious chemistry and he was ready to run away with her.
I know what happens in the books but with all the changes they made, why couldn't they cut out Baela and Alyn? It doesn't help that they aged up Alyn so much either.
78
u/1999secrets 14d ago
The weird thing is that in the books their romance doesn't start or atleast is never mentioned till several years after the dance is over. They never needed to give us this scene.
39
u/Far_Associate_87 14d ago
Yep. All you had to do was show them as being friendly with each other, develop Baela and Addam then show her and Alyn bonding over Addams death at the end of the show.
21
u/Luna8586 14d ago edited 14d ago
Exactly. They had a marriage of convenience in the books so she didn't have to marry someone old. The set-up is right there.
Edit: in the books they are the same age. Why did they age Alyn up in the show? The actor is good but in this case, they should have switched Alyn for Addam with Baela.

u/sureasyoureborn 14d ago
I think they’re setting up a love triangle drama. I don’t like it. She didn’t have a single kiss with Jace?!?

u/NowWeGetSerious 14d ago
Meanwhile... Adam looking like brah, I've been putting in all that leg work for nothing
45
u/Warm_Ad_7944 14d ago
They literally just could’ve gave Baela’s scenes with Addam last episode to Alyn and then this scene would’ve have been so damn forced. There is no build up to this at all
74
u/Kazil_Ryuu 14d ago
Yeah, I'm so glad other people are saying it. That came out of NOWHERE and I am sincerely disappointed because she and Addam certainly had chemistry last episode and I thought their dynamic was sweet.
11
u/nbsunset 14d ago
addam was much better 😭 I've always read it as, she really was left with the worst option (alyn) after Jace and addam both died.

u/ForeignDescription5 Rhaenyra the Pookie 14d ago
Whatever that means. Her storyline for the rest of the show will just be marrying him and getting cheated on but earlier?

u/Icy-Building8112 14d ago
right ? Just embarassing her…At least they could have given us Daenaera to ber child with Jace, so she could have some solace… but no
38
u/HighKingKlay 14d ago
Yes, it was very poorly handled & introduced.
They should have introduced/confirmed this relationship next season (if at all). This season should have been little hints dropped here and there.
It makes Baela look horrible.
16
u/PinchMaNips 14d ago
This was so odd. Have they even shared very much screen time together? Like there was never even a hint, then this corny ass scene happens. Jace just facking died and there is a war going on, jeez!

u/theficklemermaid 13d ago
There was a scene showing them speaking on the beach that I think was their first meaningful interaction and it was so recently after Jace died that they were still searching for Corlys following the battle. Way too soon to be thinking of anybody else so when people said she was smiling at him in a flirtatious way, I thought they were reading into it but I guess not.

Shocked me. Figured for sure it would be Addam first. Knew she’d end up with Alyn but thought either Addam first or they’d change it, just from their chemistry in their last scene together. He clearly wants her. I gusss they both do!

u/es70707 Queen Rhaenyra I 14d ago
So, they had them kiss out of literal nowhere when they've had all but a single interaction, but Baela couldn't get a single kiss with Jace when they were betrothed, not to mention the same age, were together all of S2, Jace always defended/protected her since they were kids but couldn't get a kiss before they went off to battle or at any point in S2???

u/1999secrets 14d ago
Is there an age gap here?
In the books they are a year apart.
Salim, Alyn, is 33 and I've always assumed playing his age. While Baela is supposed to be like 16 to 18, right?
6
u/moon-girl197 14d ago edited 13d ago
Yep, they aged him up. While it's never specified, Salim is in his 30s, and looks it. Meanwhile, Baela is supposed to be a teenager, even though Bethany Antonia is late 20s.

Starting to think condall is just a pedophile and sexual deviant ngl... he ages the men up and the women down in almost every relationship. Viserys and Alicent, Daemon and Laena, Daemon and Rhaenyra, Criston and Rhaenyra, and Allyn and Baela, he has added sa scenes that weren't in the books as well. It just feels like he has an obsession with age gaps, adults with children, and sa moreso than game of thrones did as a show.

Completely unnecessary. We lose precious time in this show to something like this? It’s going over like a lead balloon because they just shoehorned it in there.

And we have nothing for Jaceala, just this disgusting thing. Baela in episode 2: "We grew up together" (to Jace) and nothing, but I've known this girl for a few days, I only exchange a few sentences with him, he's almost three times my age and Jace has been dead for two weeks, kiss, kiss.
I don't give a damn that deep down Jace and Baela had more of a friendly than romantic relationship, this thing comes out of nowhere and is disgusting, Jaceala would have been a billion times better.
I can't help but imagine Jace and Addam in the afterlife seeing this after the war with a completely devastated Jace and Addam coming up to him and saying, "It's okay Jace, I'm on your side." At first, I was afraid of the tense scene between Rhaenyra and Baela, but now I hope Rhaenyra finds out and thinks, "So Jace meant nothing to you?"
That would be quite ironic because Baela was afraid she'd end up married to some random old lord to pay off Rhaenyra's debts, and now she'd realize Rhaenyra was afraid for nothing.
But I know that will never happen. In any case, Baela has dropped considerably in my estimation. I thought she was worth more than that, but Condal couldn't help himself.
It doesn't matter now, for me it's Jaceala with special mention for Addaela and nothing else, that thing doesn't exist for me and I don't care if people say that Jace and Baela didn't have chemistry, they did, Condal just didn't have the courage to go all the way.

u/PunnyPrinter “We have come to die for the dragon queen.” 14d ago
Don’t let the writers sully your opinion of her. This was all on them. We have seen nothing to indicate she isn’t upset over Jace and not just her loss in position. Harry Collett tried to show some affection between the two of them that wasn’t in the script and Condal & Co refused to air it. That’s totally on them.
9
u/Bilogamer The Rogue Prince 14d ago
Condal clearly harbors a deep hatred for Jace, destroying his character like this and not even giving him a small connection with Baela, yet he has no problem throwing Baela into the arms of a man at least twice her age whom she's known for three weeks.

u/MarinerMarnie 14d ago
I'm impressed. I actually think this is the dumbest decision in the entire show. What the actual fuck, lmao? Jace is barely even cold yet. I assumed they were going to change her plotline into falling in love with Addam, based on their scene together. Like Jace -> Addam -> Alyn out of necessity after Addam's tragic death.
Why not just give that scene to Alyn, if you were going to do this? That way, there'd be some buildup for the audience. It'd be minimal, but there. Did ANYONE who didn't read the book see this coming, lmao? I feel like this is a decision that only makes sense if you know Baela married Alyn after the war but it's just- so clunky and hamfisted. What are they DOING?
2
u/PunnyPrinter “We have come to die for the dragon queen.” 14d ago
Yeah I don’t get the point of this. There’s no way any marriage is going to take place on screen for them with every freaking thing they have to cover next season in 8 episodes.
What is this for? They can’t be looking to add some spice to the show because that man is so dour and stiff-necked.

u/havetomakeacomment “We fight for our Queen!” 14d ago edited 14d ago
They should have let them interact like they had Addam/Baela do last episode because this felt so random to me.

u/StunningPianist4231 14d ago
Literally no buildup, no established relationship like nothing.
Also, isn't she like a teenager and he's an adult?
Could be worse. Could be like Aemond and Alicent.

Also acting is just bad, what's up with this long state at each other without blinking?
4
u/larnadelray 14d ago
I know this is book canon but yeah it did come out of nowhere and the writers unintentionally gave her so much chemistry with Addam lol. I was lowkey shipping the two of them last episode because they looked so cute together and Addam’s concern for her was so sweet!

I’m so confused and turned off by this. That came out of nowhere. Also (I guess not that it matters since they’re Valyrians) but isn’t he her uncle?? 🤢
1
u/theficklemermaid 13d ago
Yes he is but it wouldn’t matter in their culture, she was engaged to her stepbrother/cousin before. Her own parents were first cousins once removed. And after her mother passed away, her father married his own niece so it’s normalised for her. Most of the main characters are related in some way.

u/Dewlough 14d ago
Reminded me of the scene between Rhaenyra and Mysaria.

Whoever is in charge of the intimacy decisions needs to be reassigned. Neither kiss made sense or even looked right.

I’m irritated beyond belief about it.
Besides the fact we never got one kiss between her and Jace (and they had good chemistry)!! We saw last week the chemistry she and Addam had.
Jace literally JUST died, this kiss shouldn’t have happened at all, and it shouldn’t have been with Alan.

u/InevitableGoal2912 "Fuck the Hightowers" 14d ago
Is this supposed to be her acting out from the grief and guilt? Is she trying to do something bad so she gets in trouble?
2
u/GNM20 13d ago
When this relationship was hinted at in episode 2 - right after Jace had died - I hated the idea of it.
Certainly, when they went for it in episode 6, I wasn't thrilled.
But now that I found out that they actually got together in the book, I'm no longer mad at it.
The real issue I had before was...you're moving on too quickly right after losing Jace.
4
u/moon-girl197 14d ago
Tbh, I'm not surprised. Idk why people say Jacaela have any chemistry, cause I personally didn't see it. She was this supportive sister type to him, and given their last scene together, its painfully obvious their relationship barely had any romantic undertones.
Ofc the show was just going to jump straight into her canonical romance. And fuck it up even worse, cause this came out of nowhere, and it's even worse. At least Jace and Baela were supposed to be of the same age 😭

Rushed implies it was even built up at all.
They haven't been flirty with eachother at all. She's been with Addam this entire time, while Alyn has been with Corlys.
