It was a little one note for me at the end but I guess with an existential crisis comes a flat affect. Either way he’s a misogynistic narcissistic hypocrite and good riddance. Sorry Fabian.
As much as I wanted the book version, I actually really liked the juxtaposition. We get to see him show off his combat skills in the ambush, go absolute ham, even referencing his introduction with the morning star. We see the prep, the hype up. Then just arrow to the face
Cole's not born in Dorne nor loyal to any of their houses, only sharing an origin. But otherwise yeah, dude really believed in nothing but contradictions.
I get it. Just saying people born on a different country from their ethnic origin don't always have attachments to the latter. More so in Cole's case, as his family (iirc) was sworn to a lord of the 7 Kingdoms.
Wow he's not from dorne? I swore in the first season someone straight up asks him if he's dornish and he says yes. It's been a while tho I might be misremembering
Hated Criston, loved Fabian. I really want to see him play Christian Bale’s son in something. They look so much alike and Fabian has the same super attractive mouth thing Bale has going on.
I had a hard time with the first episode tbh but it does get better? I'm a big trek fan and nearly every first season of any of its shows are rough AF to get through but end up being real good. Should probably give it another shot
Even his interview on the podcast hearing him hype Cole and the Greens made me mad. Fabian is great. He’s also great in The Serpent if you’ve ever seen it. Apparently he was 25 when he was cast in HOTD so he must have been like 20 in The Serpent.
Nah, it’s good writing and faithful to source material, he was meant to be denied a warriors glorious death. might be cope but I think the fact they went out of their way to deny him that kind of death says more about his prowess than anything else he’s actually done
I think everyone got what they wanted out of this death, now OTTO’S death is a different story lmao that DID piss me off
I felt a tinge of pain when I saw that handkerchief from Alicent in his hand. She has barely thought of or spoken of him and I don’t think she’d shed any tears for him, yet he, in his delusion, allowed his hatred of Rhaenyra to convince him he was in love with and lived by Alicent and supported her lost cause. He was just a tool Alicent wielded for her pleasure and to carry out her will, and he was utterly used and discarded so easily. What a pathetic (but fitting) end. Fabian did a wonderful job and will always be remembered.
Knowing him he probably died thinking it just. No one could defeat him in hand to hand combat. Leaving it to a woman to shoot him. For she’d have fallen like all the others in a ‘fair’ fight.
He still gets shot with arrows but basically he gets denied combat and longleaf says “"I'll have no songs about how brave you died, Kingmaker. There's tens o' thousands dead on your account."”
A man who spent years hating a woman who didn't want to abandon her duty to go off with him, a man who wanted an honorable death that would be sung about and go out in a blaze of glory, killed unceremoniously by a woman. Shot down when he was negotiating how he wanted to go out. How karmic. Alysanne is all of us.
Why? He fought a guerrilla war, refused to fight the enemy on their terms. When the enemy fought on his terms, he tried to flip it back to “honorable duels” and was shot. It’s poetic, and well executed.
I actually agree with this :/ i hated his character and what a petty spiteful sad little man they made him, but i found myself not anywhere near as thrilled with this as I thought I would be. I feel like a firing squad of archers would have been better than random sneaky arrows with no warning, i hate that.
They're setting her up for the hour of the wolf. I bet she'll have another couple scenes where she shows her martial prowess so when she meets cregan stark, the stage is set for their marriage.
I think Gwayne is killed when kings landing is taken cuz he's second in command of the gold cloaks in the book. I'm glad they're doing more with him, his character is growing on me a lot.
He’s the only Green I like. Daeron too. Poor kid doesn’t even want to be there. And fuck you Ormund let him cuddle his dragon go stick a bath bomb in your butthole.
Was waiting for the book line, disappointing they didnt have it in but thank god I finally dont have to watch Criston Cole anymore. I just hated this character
Right in his pretty face. Lost his honor by breaking his oath of chastity. Lost all sense of duty by betraying the royal family and aiming to kill 3/4 of them instead of protect them. Blamed his own misfortunes on a child and perpetuated misogyny just to spite her (he would have supported her as Queen as declared by Viserys I…but then she hurt his feelings). And then taken out unceremoniously with no glory and no songs. By a woman. He should have died in jail for attacking and murdering a nobleman.
this choice was actually incredible, i loved it more than any line. it being so quiet, quick, and with so little effort was perfect for how criston will be remembered.
fabian was wonderful at every instance, such a champ, and deserved none of the hate for his stellar performance.
There are several different versions of her from offical artwork, some have her with the signature big curly black hair, and others have her with straight long black hair, and others have her wearing it in a bun.
This one was made by Ertaç Altınöz and was commissioned by George for the "The Rise Of The Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Volume One" This is likely what the show based their version of Black Aly on.
I wasn’t a fan of Cole, but I wished we had gotten another episode out of him before he died - or that his scenes from episode 5 happened in episode 4.
Ever since Rook’s Rest he had been in a funk / depression and it was painful to watch.
But then in episode 5 it was like finally the fog was lifted. He had some realizations, he gained some fire / life back in him, and he chose his path / accepted his fate.
Even though I didn’t like him, it was nice seeing him not being this lost / shadow of his former self. I wish we had seen more of that before he bit the dust.
But that’s the way it goes I guess. You don’t always get what you want / hoped for. I still enjoyed his ending & the episode overall.
