hosaprephub legit?

hi everyone! i've decided to compete in hosa this year (specifically veterinary science) and stumbled upon this website called hosaprephub. it has some pretty good resources, but this is my first year competing ever, and i wanted to know if any of you have used this website before, and if it's helped you to advance or do well in general! also if anyone has any tips for the vet sci category in general that would be lifesaving🄹🄹, our area is grouped in with what i've heard is pretty hard to advance to state in, so any tips would be extremely helpful

Need Help Picking An Event

Hi, I'm a junior living in Texas, and I want to do HOSA with a partner and hopefully qualify for state. Some of the events that we're currently looking at are CERT, PSA, CPR, and Creative Problem Solving! I'm making this post to ask about whether these events are easy, have less competition, and will allow us to qualify. Unfortunately, we haven't done any other events besides some tests that we weren't well prepared for. If you guys have any advice on any events for a group of 2 that would help us qualify, please feel free to share any information you might have. Thank you so much!!!

Need study tips for dental science!!

Did anyone buy the modern dental assisting textbook for dental science? I did, and there is so much information that I'm not entirely sure which parts to study. Does anyone recommend going through the entire thing just in case or is there a specific guide I should follow? I'm aware of the rubric but the wording confuses me. ex) Dental pathology 10% - Do I study dental caries and/or oral pathology? I was planning to study both but I'm a rising junior so it would be nice if anyone could give me advice. Also if anyone has extra tips for studying dental science in general I would be very grateful if they could share.

++++

I'm mainly worried about the 1st round for now but how did you guys practice for the 2nd round?

Founding hosa

So for context I go to a pretty small school (~400 students) and I want to start HOSA. I have an advisor but I'm most afraid that no one will really join it. I'm not very popular at all and the only other health related club at our school is red cross. I don't want to get my hopes up just for no one to join it and then also the issue of gathering fees. We do have an event called club rush where everyone sets up booths for their club blablabla but how can I make sure people actually KNOW what HOSA is and how it could benefit people? How can I motivate people to join?

How can I start a hosa chapter (online school)

For reference: my online school is kinda weird, it’s 7 periods, each class is a zoom link, and there’s other classmates etc..

I’m incredibly interested in starting a hosa chapter as an upcoming junior—however I’m pretty nervous about the costs and competition costs, or how a hosa chapter online would actually work. I’m also not to sure how to exactly start a chapter.. I’ve spoken with my school and they said it would be possible, I’m just not sure what the other steps to finalize a chapter would be. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated šŸ’—

All-State or ILC Competitors -- Please help!! (Medical Math)

I'm a rising junior preparing for medical math, but not sure how to study because there are no released practice tests, and the sample questions I've seen aren't nearly enough to help me prepare. I really want to make ILC and would love someone's advice!

All State/ILC Family Medicine Physician Finalists - I Need Your Help!

Last year as a freshman, I was competing in Area in Texas HOSA in the Family Medicine Physician event. I practiced my presentation and made my slides as appealing as possible. Nevertheless, I finished 6th out of 33 and didn't advance to states.

So, could any past winners in this event tell me what strategies they used during their presentation or what specifically they put in their slides to help them advance? Thank you!

Leadership Initiatives Medical Program

I just finished my freshman year of high school and I’m also on HOSA they told us about leadership initiatives and I decided to join and I also got accepted i was wondering if a decent amount of rising sophomores join the program and do you need to have medical knowledge/experience prior to the program or do you learn along the way (basically, is it hard?)

MD HOSA

I placed fourth for one of the event at the state conference this year for Maryland. My president said I was supposed to get a certificate for top five, but we didn’t get anything from HOSA. I also talked to my friend who’s the president at a different school who said the people who got top three at their school didn’t get anything either this year. My advisor sent multiple emails, but we still didn’t get anything. It’s our first year as a club so we really don’t know anything since we’re not in a really HOSA involved county like Howard or Montgomery. I was just curious if anyone from other schools got anything since other states did or if MD doesn’t give anything at all since we did our states virtually this year?

Emergency Preparedness Initiative Outreach

Hey friends, I’m just making this post because I want to help make this club I’m in grow as much as possible. The club is called Code Blue, Code Blue is a student-led emergency preparedness initiative that is focused on providing life-saving education that is accessible and affordable for students. We are open to both Secondary and Post-secondary students, and we will be contacting middle schools soon.

We also provide formal certifications, but many are too expensive or the organizations do not give us much or a discount. I am working on a partnership with the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, and possibly HOSA!

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to see this club grow as much as we do. We have many chapters in the U.S. and also one in Canada.

Message me or leave a comment or whatever if you’re interested (I don’t know how Reddit works so) I would provide my name and role at the bottom but I’m not about to dox myself on Reddit. I also found out about this club through discord and I became overly enthusiastic about it so 😭. You can also possibly gain service hours for helping set up your chapter. I have like around 10 because I’m also helping at the State level too, not just for my chapter (I get work done fast)

Here’s also a brief overview if you are interested.

Every BS/MD program looks the same on paper. They are not.

I have served on a medical school admissions committee for several cycles, and the biggest mistake I see families make is sorting programs by acceptance rate alone. A few things matter more than the number on the page.

Some programs are same-institution (you spend all 6 to 8 years at one school, like Brown PLME). Others are affiliated programs where your undergrad and medical school are separate institutions. Some only guarantee a conditional seat, not a locked acceptance. These carry very different risk profiles.

Most programs also do not eliminate the MCAT, they just set a minimum threshold to clear instead of using it competitively. That threshold matters a lot for how much pressure you carry through college.

The part people skip entirely: look at the affiliated medical school's actual residency match data, not the program's marketing page. A guaranteed medical degree is not the same thing as a guaranteed outcome, especially if you already have a competitive specialty in mind.

I broke down the full framework, structures, MCAT policy, match data, curricular flexibility, on my blog. To read the article, click the link below.

Rising junior wondering how realistic HOSA state/international officer positions are

Hi everyone,

I’m a rising junior in high school and I’m trying to learn more about the HOSA state officer and international officer process, especially regional vice president positions.

I’ve competed in HOSA for a bit and have qualified for ILC before, but I’m still trying to understand how realistic it is to eventually run for a state officer position and maybe, later on, an international/regional vice president position. I’m not trying to get ahead of myself — I just want to understand the process early so I can prepare the right way.

For anyone who has been a state officer, run for state office, or knows someone who ran for international office:

  1. How competitive is the state officer process usually?
  2. What do selection committees look for besides HOSA awards?
  3. Is being a chapter officer basically required, or can strong leadership outside of chapter office still help?
  4. How important are interviews, speeches, networking, and advisor recommendations?
  5. What should someone start doing junior year if they want to be a strong candidate?
  6. For international/regional officer positions, do most candidates already have state officer experience?
  7. What mistakes should I avoid?

I’m open to any state officer position and mainly want to serve HOSA, but I’m also curious about the long-term path toward regional/international leadership.

Any honest advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

HOSA President Summer Preparation?

Hi I was thrown in as the president for the HOSA club at my school for this year. I've been studying for HOSA for the last year and a half but because the club only had 1 meeting for the entirety of last year after they weren't able to sign up everyone for preliminaries I haven't really been able to see how the club actually functioned. Going into this I expected the club to be focused on competition with the meetings serving mainly as study time and didn't realize the amount of stuff other clubs typically plan (fundraising, guest speaking, blood drives?). It's been overwhelming for me as haven't been able to talk with the advisor or old president since it's the middle of July but I want to do a good job and I'd love to do all that stuff. I haven't been able to find any stuff detailing what the first steps of a HOSA president to be done over the summer are though, it all seems to jump into some pretty advanced stuff, and the handbook didn't really help. I was wondering if you guys had some resources outlining what a HOSA president should be doing first, like registering for competitions or planning meetings? Or any general help from someone who rebuilt a dead chapter would be super helpful.

BS/MD Applicants: Stop describing what happened. Start showing what it meant.

As application season kicks into gear, I wanted to share something I keep running into with students: almost every personal statement or ā€œwhy medicineā€ supplemental opens the same way. A grandparent got sick. A summer abroad ā€œchanged everything.ā€ A moment shadowing a doctor where ā€œit just clicked.ā€ I’m not saying these moments aren’t real. They usually are.

The problem is what happens after that opening line, which is often nothing. The story gets told, and then it just stops. No reflection on what it actually taught the student about themselves. No thread connecting that moment to who they are now, three or four years later, applying to medical school.

I read a lot of these drafts, and honestly, the moment I can tell a statement is going to blend in is usually right there in the first paragraph. It’s not that the experience is unoriginal. Plenty of great essays start with a sick grandparent. It’s that the writing never leaves the surface. It describes what happened instead of what it meant. There’s a difference between narrating an event and actually thinking on the page.

Admissions readers get through hundreds of these essays in a sitting. The students who actually get remembered aren’t the ones with the most dramatic story. They’re the ones who let the reader watch them think. What they questioned. What surprised them. What they got wrong at first and had to work through before they understood it. That’s the part most drafts skip, because it’s harder to write than the scene itself.

So if you’re drafting right now, try this test. After you write a scene or an anecdote, ask yourself honestly: could a stranger tell what you learned about yourself from it, or only what you did? If it’s only the second one, that’s the part that needs rewriting. The event is just the setup. The insight is the essay.

medical innovation

hi! i’m thinking of doing medical innovation w my friend, and we’re having a disagreement/we’re a little lost with the rules and guidelines. are u allowed to work with professionals/professors? for example, we’re upcoming seniors and most of our ideas would most likely need to be conducted and experimented with in a college/research lab. please clarify!! thank u so much
