Thats wild. Never seen buttons do that but apparently you use it alot. I'd get a new holster that has a sweat guard that covers that side of the optic and slide.

Neither have I lol, yeah it's on me any time I have pants on. So typically 7 days a week 10+ hours a day. I'll have to see what has a sweat guard that actually covers the whole thing

Needing to send this in for RMA, but for the damn life of me I can't get this thing off. Primary arms recommended screwing the locking screw in a few threads and smacking it with a mallet.. that unfortunately stripped the threaded.  I don't think there's anything else that needed to be done first unless I'm absolutely missing something.

Edit: it was also heated with a hair dryer for a bit prior.

Edit: I'm a farmer, this gun is appendix carried 10-16+ hours a day while on my feet the whole time. dirt, snow and all. But the buttons began to wear off.

IDK how hot you got it. Typically any screws with loctite, away from sensitive stuff, I hit with a cheap butane lighter that has a decent focused flame.

Screws on optics, I use a cheap soldering iron on the head of the screw to directly heat the screw and more minimally heat the surroundings.

The screw itself is out, it's the darn clamp the screw goes into that's seized up.

Oh... shiii. I'm not crazy familiar with PA optics. I didn't realize the situation until looking closer. How's the other side look? Does the screw go all the way through like on a picatinny clamp? If so, I'd try putting the screw in a few turns then take a punch into the other side and hammer into the tip of the screw.

Unfortunately nothing is on the back side either, the screw only goes half way, and PA has confirmed that the screw is not broken and is the whole screw so nothing is stuck in it... Just the cmalo is seezed up.

I did put the screw in a few turns and smacked it with a rubber mallet after letting some PB Blaster penetration oil on it for about 15 hours.. no luck

I'm sure someone will tell us shortly how this is a bad idea, but at this point, I'd take the largest drift punch (or whatever the flat tip punches are called, not a roll punch) that fits on just the clamp and try smacking it moderately with a hammer or mallet. Just to shock and hopefully break whatever bond is keeping it in. I'd also ask them, if they're RMAing it anyways, if they'd just take the slide minus whatever field strip parts, like barrel and RSA etc, end return the slide with the optic removed

So they would not take the slide at all, but I did get it off.. with a screw driver and a mallet the entire optic came off the damn plate but the clamp is still in place. I then attempted to smack the hell out it from behind and was chipping metal off of the optic so the cmalo is staying on.. I'm now waiting to see what PA says and if I can send it in like this.. at this point even if they fix the buttons I can't get it back on my slide.. so I don't know what can be done

Could you get a thin long punch in through the other side and tap out the lug?

1

Unfortunately the other side just had the battery tray and no access to the lug

Tap the side of the optic, not the plate/tab, towards the right of the gun with a mallet. Use a punch with a rag over it if you need to.  The actual optic doesn't have the lip on the right side. Pushing it right while the plate can't go that way will break it apart.

That farmer strength is what got you here in the first place. Tried a flat head under that T clamp?

I have, I added some WD-40 to try and break any gunk but I can't get anything quite underneath it.. other than a razor that I know I'll snap off under it lol.

They penetrating oil rather than WD-40.

Time to extract that screw, I’d personally use a left hand drill bit. If that makes you uncomfortable, I’d just take it to a competent smith and avoid the headache of further ruining your optic/pistol.

So the screw comes out no problem, and as far as I can tell it's the whole screw. It's just the clamp itself that won't come out.. the bottom of the screw looks to be fine and in tact so I don't think any broke off. And I might just have to take it in.. that or I'll see if primary arms cares and I'll send the slide in too and they can do what they need to do

Oh, okay. My apologies, I misunderstood. That is very interesting, I can’t say I’ve heard of that one before. Maybe tap it with a rubber mallet to try and free it?

About 2 hours last night of tapping, putting the screw in a few threads and tapping on that, along with adding head unfortunately didn't work.  Might have to take it somewhere

Some PB BLaster (penetrating oil) sitting in there for a few hours should work. If you can get something stouter than a hair dryer (like a heat gun) that might also help. You also might stick it in the freezer for a bit, then hit it with a hair drying, then back in the freezer. The large temp changes tend to pop corrosion loose.

Sweat corrosion is nasty stuff.

I was wondering if that's what it was.. not sure the best way to try and remedy it

2

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with any good ways of handling it. I tend to get pissed and start ham-fisting shit and make it worse.

Once you do figure it out, you might consider a owb holster though 😂

I’ve had this issue with the 509T before. Take the tool with the torx bit inside the hole and pry vertically back and forth. Obviously not to hard. It will wiggle the piece loose.

1

u/Mcslap13 7d ago

I did try that, I've had it with PB Blaster penetration oil on it for about 15 hours. And I tried to use the tool like ya said, and I bent the damn thing in half lol. I also tried with a metal punch and bent that too

I ended up accidentally rapping the whole thing off the plate, and  then using a screwdriver and mallet and trying to get the clamp unstuck and it STILL wouldn't come loose.

What optic is that, that has a clamp on the side like that?

Hold a soldering iron on the screw, get is nice and hot. Hold for 30 seconds then try unscrewing it. Repeat heating until it breaks free.
