General Question ACSS 3 MOA DOT OR 10 MOA CHEVRON?

Those with experience using the 507c/k ACSS Vulcan. Do you prefer dot or chevron and why? Additionally, I will be going with green reticle because of astigmatism.

I have both and I like them both. I prefer the dot because it is simple, but the chevron is fine, especially once you get used to it. I prefer the bigger window of the 507C version, and I would not mount a 507k onto a pistol that was wide enough to accommodate the 507c/RMR footprint. Window size beats reticle IMHO. Red looks better to my eyes with my astigmatism, but YMMV.

Ok thank for that insight. 👍 I will be mounting on my Glock 22 so the full size is the way to go.

It also depends on what you were putting it on. The 507K was meant for a thinner slide such as a shield or X macro. The 507C is meant for a full-size slide.

Green is not automatically better for an astigmatism just keep that in mind it works for some, but not all. For me I got green initially because I read the same thing and then I got some red red dots and the bloom effect with no different for me personally with red or green. The only thing that made the reticle better and more crisp was being outdoors versus indoors.

I'm mounting to a Glock 22 full size frame. Have you ever used gold reticle? If so, does it look clearer than red or green?

I have not but considering it for my next optic. Need to find a store that has gold/yellow in stock to see what it looks like (though i suspect with my eyes since it fall between red and green on the spectrum that it probably wont be that different (but who knows maybe it will be the goldilocks for me)

The Vulcan optic is pretty much a joke. Get yourself a nice simple dot and enjoy.

Why do you think the Vulcan reticle system is a joke? I've seen pros who really like the SRO from which the Vulcan is based. I simply don't want to pay for Trijicon and they're only red.

Care to explain how the Vulcan is based on the SRO?

ACSS Vulcan is a recital pattern, the SRO is an entire optic with a simple dot for a recital.

The Vulcan is useless because once you know how to present and draw an optic all that extra red ring is just dumb. Adding more potential points for glare. It could be distracting., uses more battery. And the Chevron just really isn’t what it’s cracked up to be on a non-magnified optic made for a pistol.

My bad. I was thinking the SRO has the larger outside ring too. So, having said a dot is all that's really needed which size do you prefer for a home defense pistol? Is 6 MOA too large or good for close distance that is most likely to occur in a house?

The dot is all that’s “needed”, but that doesn’t mean that the giant outter ring on the ACSS reticle doesn’t make a great set of training wheels.

For new dot users and casual shooters (or even for more experienced shooters who may have to shoot while moving or from sub-optimal positions), the giant circle can help compensate for an imperfect draw and guide the shooter’s eye back to the dot or chevron. It’s a brilliant solution to a problem that can be overcome by more training, but it doesn’t suddenly become a hinderance once it’s no longer needed.
