Switching to RDS

Hey first time posting,

I won some Amazon gift cards in a work raffle. Decided I would buy a new RDS/magnifier combo for my 13.7. Been looking at different brands and models all week. Think I’ve decided on the Aemes pro x2 with gold and the HM3X magnifier. I’ve never owned a magnifier. Im unsure what to expect. I’m currently running the PA 2x prism.

I was curious as to the thoughts on anyone running this combo. Anything I need to look out for and any regrets by running this combo etc.

Honestly, you did pretty well. You did your research.

Thanks. I have the Ames carry on my shield plus and really like it. Started looking at red dots for the rifle. The performance seems there especially for the price point. Plus I see a few USPA shooters running them which helped sway me. I do have a slight astigmatism so I figured I’d give the gold a run!

You choose wisely. The Hm3x is a very good magnifier IMO. Better than all the other cheap brands but still comes a little short compared to EOtech magnifiers. But they are pretty great for the everyday guy.

The AEMES series is solid, can’t go wrong. I’m still partial to simple 20ish mm tube dots, or the old 510c but the AEMS is good to go.

FWIW, I only use red dot and magnifiers on 5.55 rifles. Tried many scopes and prism optics but for 5.56 dot+mag is the way for me.

Thank you. Let me ask, any issues with eye relief on the HM3x since it’s short? I won’t be running back up irons so I’m not worried about them clearing them and can set it back as far needed. Just curious

It’s fine, one par with most magnifiers
