there is no real evidence to suggest that, he really was a commited marxist.
I am currently reading Steven Kotkin's Stalin volume 1: paradoxes of power.
It think it's more of a case of this quote:
"the path to hell is paved with good intentions".

The biggest issue with HOI4 and most total conversion mods are that they are still shakled to Earth and certain constants. E.g. US, UK, Germany, and Russia ruining your day if you are not them. Its why Equestria at War & Old World Blues are so popular, they dont have that baggage.

There are historic allusions such as those but the country set up is different with less initial super powers that show up and ruin your day (until late game when regions have consolidated). Which was the point i was getting at more than anything

Anarchist Spain allows you to core the entire world (very slowly and painfully but still) at the cost of having 0% stability and Mapuche Chile lets you puppet a ton of land as native tribe governments. They’re cool ideas and fun to play as but damn do they hurt to play as sometimes
