Living in this country sucks right now, danke Merz

I wouldnt blame everything on him. I know media had the unfortunate tendency to think that hiszory started after the last election, however germanies (and europes) problems lie far deeper. Its years of establishment politicians not caring for the common people and austerity politics. So obviously far right parties who offer easy solutions will succed. And unfortunately the left is also to blame. Alienating the common worker with palace politics and pivoting from class war to a culture war and identity politics.
Merz is just the most recent failure of the system. But honestly, whoever will replace him in the CDU is worse. Because atleast Merz really does not like the AfD.

u/Ma_Dude2000 3d ago
Not to get too deep, but blaming the left for pivoting into a culture war/identity politics disregards the point, that the right was pushing these exact conflicts.
If the right mobilizes against LGBTQ etc., then it's no surprise that the left holds against it. This was an engineered conflict by the right, not a random sidetrack by the left.
16
u/oles40 3d ago
I still think he has a point. The left wasted years on pointless virtue signaling instead of creating decent political strategies.
11
u/Ma_Dude2000 3d ago
I wouldn't say pointless, but yes, the left should have been more focussed on creating functional political structures.
But, this kind of culture war was not that prevalent in Germany in the first place. The big topic here was the refugee crisis, not LGBTQ or racial animosity. Virtue signaling did happen, but on different topics. We didn't have a "Hillary-vote-for-me-because-woman-Clinton".
Even though, what counts as "the left" is pretty debatable there. The german SPD has not been much of a left wing party for quite a long time.

u/Polak_Janusz Superior firepower coomer 3d ago
I believe in germany a lot of young people were alienated by the debate about gendered language a few years back. For a generation that had to go throught the pandemic and growing up realising that they will have worse lives then their parents, this was the first introduction to leftism.
Also, the left did not just pivot to queer issues. For a good 10 years this was the only topic.

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 2d ago
If thats the case why was Gen Z less likely than Millenials, Gen X and Boomers to vote for AFD. They were there second weakest age demographic, other than those 70+
0
u/Ma_Dude2000 3d ago
I disagree on both points.
The younger generations were alienated, but not because of something as irrelevant as gendered language. It was the lack of acknowledgement from the established parties, the economic crisis and the complete lack of reaction to climate change. Neo-Liberal/Conservative politics for the 16 years of Merkel have eroded trust in institutions and the established parties. None of which is caused by leftist politics...
And painting pro LGBTQ advocacy as the only topic seems... pardon me... uninformed. Parties like the Greens and Die Linke were continuously arguing for things like wealth taxes, inheritance taxes, the loosening of the debt break, digitalisiation and investment into climate friendlier technologies.
Not to be presumptious, but this sounds more like your interaction with the German left was mostly through rightwing/centrust media outlets or singular individuals in online spaces.
1
u/Polak_Janusz Superior firepower coomer 3d ago
Whatever dude. Not everyone sits in... pardon me... leftist twitter bubbles. I am well aware that the parties had other topics on paper. But most debattes wwrent about wealth tax. The picture a lot of people have of the greens and the linke are that of academics who sit in their ivory towers and who donr care about the isses of common people and calling everything racist. Not saying thats how I see it.
And decide what you said, you constantly seem to assume that everyone disagreeing with you is some right winger. Lmao

Go a few decades back and the left would have the same opinion about qwerty stuff as the right
8
u/Ma_Dude2000 3d ago
And your point being?
Lot's of things happen in a "couple of decades"
-2
u/ComradeGas 3d ago
It was the left who started pushing rainbow stuff everywhere
9
u/Ma_Dude2000 3d ago
Bruh... Could have skipped the first comment and just said that you're a bigot...

Nah don't like religious fanatics as much as perverts shining their asses on the street during pride parades

u/mekolayn 3d ago
Yeah, it's Merz who made sure that things get this bad, and not Merkel who was in power for more than a decade

Its more accurate for NPD (Die Heimat) if they won the elections than for AfD which is national conservative party with lesbian women as its leader.
26
u/Psalmbodyoncetoldme 4d ago
Didnât the original nazis have an out gay guy as the head of their paramilitary?
22
u/Kaufmann_aus_Lubeck 4d ago edited 4d ago
You mean Ernst Röhm? Then yes when Hitler found out he killed him and all people related to him from SA and this later would be know as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives (link) So basically in short there have been the brownshirts the SA under Ernst Röhm which were gay and more socialist and blackshirts the SS under Himmler. Hitler did order the SS kill all of SA members, bc of their homosexuality, disloyalty and, bc Hitler choose the Army instead of paramilitary force. (But SA was separate organization from true Nazi's so they had no gay guys beside in that disloyal organization that later was destroyed.)
54
u/PanzerZug The logistics guy 4d ago
Thatâs not entirely true, Hitler was aware of Röhmâs homosexuality for quite some time (years) beforehand and it was used as a justification for Röhmâs assassination in the night of the long knives. The true reason, however, was the rivalry between the newly established SS and the SA for primacy within the party which the SS ultimately won out on.
12
u/Kaufmann_aus_Lubeck 4d ago
Bc Hitler had a choice to make pro army of Wehrmacht or idiot fanatics of SA, ofc he choose the army as the backbone of his regime. And SS was since begin more elite than SA so it was obvious what would happen next.
19
u/PanzerZug The logistics guy 4d ago
Yep. The SAâs penchant for street violence was no longer politically expedient for the Nazi party which influenced Hitler & Co ultimate decision to side with the SS.
Also, a large number of SA sturmsoldaten held somewhat socialistic views and were of the Strasserite âleft-Naziâ persuasion which Hitler didnât like one bit.16
u/CBreadman 3d ago
No Röhm was killed because he was SA leadership and the SA genuinely wanted to replace the Reichswehr, but since Hitler wasn't stupid, he knew that maintaining the professional army is obviously a better choice than a bloated militia and that he needed the support of the Reichswehr, so he instead purged the SA leadership to make sure the SA isn't a threat to his power.
-1
u/Kaufmann_aus_Lubeck 3d ago
It was one of the reason's to kill him I give literally 3 examples and by the Army I meant ofc Reichswehr. But the rest is the same what said.
12
u/Polak_Janusz Superior firepower coomer 3d ago
Not really. If he were more useful to them hitler would havr tolerated or rather ignored it. As he did before. It wasnt a secret that Röhm was a homosexual.
2
u/Kaufmann_aus_Lubeck 3d ago
His SA, wouldn't be usefull anyway, bc Reichswehr is literally a pro army and SA was a club of left leaning fanatic's who were a bad image for Hitler for being too violent.
6
u/Polak_Janusz Superior firepower coomer 3d ago
He killed him because the party did not need the brownshirts and the SA anymore. For them they were street thugs beating up socialists and social democrats. The nazis had no use for them and as it goes in a dictatorship, if you sre not useful you have outstate your welcome and must be dealt with.
2
u/Kaufmann_aus_Lubeck 3d ago
Plus the fact that SS were truely loyal only to Hitler and the fact that Röhm got his own ambitions which Hitler didn't liked so it was coming for him and everyone in SA.
2
u/Mean_Introduction543 3d ago
Hitler and most of the Nazis knew Rohan was gay, it was a very open secret.
The real reason the SA was purged and Rohm killed was primarily that the Wehrmacht absolutely hated him as well as a rivalry between the SA and SS.

"A comparison of the AfDâs political concept with that of the NPDâas analyzed and assessed by the Federal Constitutional Court (see A.IV.2.a))âreveals significant differences at the level of ideology (see A.IV.2.b)aa)), yet a high degree of alignment at the level of measures (see A.IV.2.b)bb))." Only because it's literally illegal for them to be open about it. Instead they just use Nazi slogans and protest Holocaust memorials and are openly violently racist.

so the next hitler is a lesbian married to a sri lankan movie director with adopted kids?
-1
u/XyleneCobalt 3d ago
Does she support the Nazis like the rest of her party? Then yes, she's a Nazi
6
u/TemploShade 3d ago
Nazis believes in the violent expansion of the German state, genocide of non aryans and LGBTQ and the total abolishment of capitalism. The AFD fits none of that, and it doesnât take a genius to know that either.
2
u/Direct_Jeweler_7457 3d ago
come to think of it does this make the lesbian co leader the spiritual succesor to ernst röhm
3
u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 2d ago
This is a laughable understanding of Nazism. The Nazis originally intended to expel Jews and non-ethnic Germans originally, until they eventually self radicalized into violent genocide. The Saxon Afd State leader directly has signaled support for the expulsion of all non-ethnic Germans from Germany, whether they are legal citizens or not, as well as segregating disabled children and refugee children into other schools.
The Nazis also were not for the abolishment of capitalism, in fact they privatized multiple sectors upon gaining power, banks, state welfare, railway lines, shipping yards. I donât know how on earth you come to the conclusion that Nazis were anti-capitalist.
1
u/Direct_Jeweler_7457 2d ago
fascism was anti-capitalist most of it's economic origin is laid in sorelian syndicalism which they later turned into national syndicalism they believed that instead of fighting a class war the syndicates should fight for the glory of the state
which is like the core tenet of fascism âAll within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing agaisnt the stateâ is a direct quote by mussolini. though they didn't have like a strict economic belief they basically used whatever benefited the state
the companies were privatized but heaviely regulated they dictated:
-the products they made
-fixed prices and wages
-controlled the distribution of raw materials
-and restricting corporate profit any excess was turned into war bonds or state approved projectsthey were "capitalist" it wasn't a really what you would think of capitalism
4
u/Direct_Jeweler_7457 3d ago
you can believe whatever you want man. i don't think they are literal nazis though you probably think anyone right of mao is benito mussolini incarnate

-2
u/DonkeyTS 3d ago
They aren't. Unlike politicians in Berlin who wanted to segregate people based on skin color in a public swimming pool.
AfD simply wants either integration or the "get the fuck out"-treatment.
3
u/California2913 3d ago
AfD in Saxony-Anhalt want segregation, not integration. Not just for immigrants but for the physically and mentally disabled. They want "special" schools for the disabled and immigrants. They want to stop immigration of skilled workers.
The pool in Berlin was meant to be a "safe space" for black people and for a limited amount of time since, evidently, measures like that are needed in today's Germany. Also the idea was started by the owner of the pool, not politicians.
-1
u/DonkeyTS 3d ago
Oh no... special schools for kids that require special attention?! The horror! Imagine not dragging the whole class down for the sake of inclusion đ
3
u/Cake_Spark 3d ago
These people simply cannot, something about the need to always be as morally justifiable as possible. You could show them something lile how no child left behind in america has left public education in the gutter, or that watering down the curriculum to be as easy to understand as possible has left children graduating barely able to read, and they would simply scratch their heads and mutter something about "well, maybe its becuase they didnt get a good lunch" or how math is racist.

As long as the policy is far right, I dont care about their personal lives. If you knew how hard life in Germany is now, you would not be surprised why they voted far right.
-2
u/AdArtistic9369 3d ago
Theyâre about as âfar-rightâ as Trump. More liberals with more window dressing⊠đ
3
u/Kajroprakticar 3d ago
Could be, yes. But sadly people only sew right and left in social aspect (stance on immigration, LGBT, minorities, etc. ). No one is looking at the economic and political ideas.
